Join this leather craft class and discover the rewarding art of working with high-quality, Scottish veg-tan leather. Guided by an expert with over 26 years of professional experience, you'll have the chance to create a bespoke accessory that's as durable as it is beautiful. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to sharpen your skills, this workshop offers a low-pressure, supportive environment to get hands-on with traditional techniques.
You can choose a project that suits your style and needs:
  • A simple card holder
  • A more complex card holder
  • A pocket wallet
  • A passport-size wallet
Throughout the session, you'll learn the fundamentals of the craft, from handling professional tools and adhesives to the satisfying process of hand-sewing. Your teacher will even pre-engrave your chosen design so you can focus on the most enjoyable parts of the creation process. Between the cutting and stitching, there's always plenty of tea and shortbread to keep the uplifting energy flowing.
You will learn how to:
  • Colour a pre-engraved design
  • Hand-sew leather for a robust finish
  • Handle specialized materials, tools, and adhesives
By the end of the workshop, you'll feel empowered by your new-found knowledge and the tactile joy of making. You'll head home with a one-of-a-kind, hand-stitched keepsake that's ready for years of use or to be given as a heartfelt, personal gift. It's a wonderful way to switch off from the digital world and find a fresh sense of creative confidence.

Hello I’m Will Phoenix and I've always been slightly obsessed with books... thou not the reading type, but the empty ones...the dusty old journal, them marbled edged Victorian ledgers, the ageing leather notebook or the beautiful sketch pad. A constant sketcher, i still carry around a pencil and pad, happily losing myself drawing (instead of finger tapping a smart phone).
As bookmaker (I don't call myself a binder) I recently fell heavily for leather work, a new apprenticeship almost. After spending substantially more than the much talked about "10, 000 hours" on embossing (repoussé) soft metals, I felt it time for a fresh challenge. I started at the basement level and repeated what i did 24 years ago when I picked up my first sheet of metal to shape into a book cover
I presented my work for sale since the beginning and in this world of the cheap/mass produced, I've realised there is still a small place for the individual, the actual unique 'one of a kind' piece. I carry no airs and graces and never over-precious about my work. I simply makes books. I’m looking forward to teaching., Kindest Regards
Will
