The Scarf Takes Shape

The Scarf Takes Shape

Unwrap and see the magic: soft wool turning into your very own felted silk scarf.

At this felting workshop, you’ll join a small, welcoming group as you learn the mindful art of transforming soft merino wool into a unique handmade scarf. Together, you’ll slow down, connect, and discover the quiet magic of wool turning into fabric.
The session blends expert guidance with relaxed creativity, so you’ll feel supported whether it’s your first time felting or you’ve tried it before. Along the way, there will be tea, conversation, and plenty of time to enjoy the process as your work takes shape.
What to expect:
  • Learn how to gently handle unspun merino wool and lay fibres for your design.
  • Create a small practice sample before moving on to your main scarf.
  • Use soap, water, and bubble wrap to encourage the fibres to bond.
  • Gently roll, check, and nurture your wool until the transformation happens.
  • A calm, friendly environment with breaks for a well-earned cuppa.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a fabulous hand-felted scarf, the skills to keep creating, and the satisfaction of having made something both beautiful and personal with your own hands.

I am a textile artist based in the West Midlands, UK. I have particular fondness for the textures of wool and textiles and my work often reflects inspiration from organic forms within nature.
I have been felting and teaching workshops for over 18 years and am a member of the International Feltmakers Association. A trained teacher, I also have a Masters in Art, Health and Wellbeing and this underpins my belief that we can all take time out to relax and fulfil our potential.
I am a regular tutor at MAC, Birmingham and also give talks about the craft of feltmaking. I also teach and exhibit at museums and art galleries too. I have worked with groups focussing on mental health and traumatic bereavement issues. I have been interviewed several times on the radio and featured on 'Kirstie's Handmade Christmas' a few years ago!
Whatever a person's skill level I aim to encourage them gently and build confidence to take time out, explore a beautiful craft and have a sense of relaxation and achievement.
