Explore your creative side with this Japanese painting workshop in Birmingham, an engaging experience where you’ll learn to paint using traditional materials and styles. Guided by a local artist, you’ll discover techniques inspired by Japanese art movements such as Ukiyo-e and Rinpa while creating your own unique piece.
No experience is needed. Whether it’s your first time painting or you already have some experience, you’ll be supported throughout in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
What to expect:
  • Learn about Japanese art styles including Ukiyo-e and Rinpa.
  • Paint using traditional materials and techniques.
  • Create your artwork on rice paper boards, rice paper fans, or silk fans.
  • Step-by-step guidance from an experienced artist.
  • A supportive, creative atmosphere where you can work at your own pace.
  • A chance to share and reflect on your work with the group!
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with your own finished Japanese-inspired artwork and new techniques you can continue exploring whenever you feel like getting creative.

  • Sumi ink, Gansai Tambi 顔彩耽美 (Traditional Japanese colours), gold leaves, rice paper board or fan.
  • All of the equipment and materials needed for your class.
