If you've always wanted to try patchwork or quilting and you'd like to build your skills, try this beginner's course into basic patchwork and quilting. Working in a group environment with other like-minded budding quilters, you will work on a project of your choice with guidance and support in a sunny, relaxed environment.
Over a period of 5 courses, you will learn the various stages of patchwork: design, piecing, construction, stitching and bindings.
  • Concept: picking a design, colours, and size.
  • Piecing: sewing together fabric shapes to make the quilt top design.
  • Construction: attachment of backing fabric, wadding/batting to make a fabric sandwich.
  • Quilt stitching: decorative sewing to hold the layers together and form a design
  • Binding: the fabric strip that holds the three layers together at the edge.
Squares are the most basic shape in quilting. Each side of the square is the same size; cut on the straight grain; and the design is easily adapted by changing the size of the square.
Quilting is a creative, skilful, resourceful and relaxing talent to enjoy with new and old friends. The more you do it, the more ideas you generate, new pieces get created and the more exhilarating you feel losing yourself in the creative process.
