We'll send a ClassBento Box to you (a craft kit with what you'll need). Shipping in the UK is free, and it should arrive within 2-4 days. This craft kit only ships to UK mainland.
Enjoy the online class - after booking, you'll get a link to join the interactive class.
In this online workshop, Ria will share an introduction to the world of natural dyeing using British wool yarns. Ria will demonstrate and show examples of the vibrant colours that can be achieved with homegrown and foraged plants, food wastes, and dye extracts.
During an introductory talk, Ria will cover the following topics:
  • How to prepare yarns for the dye pot
  • How to choose the right natural dye for your project
  • Different natural dyeing methods and techniques
  • Where to source dyes, yarns, and other supplies
They will then demonstrate the dyeing process live, using a variety of British wool yarns and natural dyes.
The workshop will be hosted live on Zoom, and you will be able to ask questions throughout the session.
If you cannot make the live session, you will be sent the recording and be able to catch up for 30 days after the workshop. Along with the recording, you will be sent a PDF explaining the methods outlined in the workshop and a list of equipment, suppliers, and further reading.
What you'll get in your craft kit
I’ve selected 5 of my favourite British wool yarns and prepared them so that they are ready for the dye pot. Also included in the pack is a packet of homegrown coreopsis flowers, enough to dye the yarns a rich deep orange shade. During the workshop, I talk about ways to alter the colour of the dye with modifiers, so I’ve included some pH strips and an alkali modifier for you to experiment at home.
If you'd like to try dyeing at home, you can buy a yarn and dye pack which includes:
  • 5 × 10g skeins of different British wool yarns (contents will vary depending on availability) - pre-mordanted so they are ready for the dye pot
  • Homegrown coreopsis flowers
  • pH strips and soda crystals for modifying the colour
