EXPERIENCE

EXPERIENCE

An evening of painting and making friends.

In this workshop, we will engage the creative possibilities that embrace the unknown as a generative space for creating abstract painting.
Hosted by Green on the Lanes and facilitated by artist Josie Alexandra, participants will be introduced to painting processes from Josie’s own practice, whilst being supported to find their own unique style. This workshop is for all levels, from beginners just wanting to make a start to experienced painters looking to break out of familiar patterns. This is an opportunity to let go of rigid expectations, build trust in the process, and experience painting as an open-ended conversation and way of thinking.
Through guided exercises, participants will experiment with methods that support us to embrace conscious presence with our surroundings and our own ways of moving through space, which in turn allows us to navigate unpredictability in creativity, allowing line, form, texture, and colour to emerge intuitively. Participants will inhabit practical techniques to utilise the uncertainty of an ‘unknown and unplanned outcome’ as a creative practice rather than a limitation.
With welcome drinks and socialising from 7 - 7:30pm and the creative session from 7:30pm - 9:30pm, please plan to arrive according to the stated time so as not to disrupt the event.
All participants receive a complimentary 10% discount on homewares, plants, and pots on the evening of the event.
Testimonies:
"Josie has created such a peaceful, safe, and calming space - a space where we can make a mess and be imperfect, and that's ok! I felt discomfort in the process but managed to overcome hesitations pretty soundly! Thanks, Josie.”
“It is community-forming and a non-judgmental environment in which to express oneself - I think this is important in these times.”
“I feel really connected to ways of thinking, the artists involved, and a sense of possibility from being here and around other artists, even if we didn’t talk to each other. I loved that we didn’t need to talk much, just being in space trying new things together.”
“Josie facilitated an open and generous workshop with a wide range of mediums and colours. They held a gentle and encouraging space where I felt like I could try painting without feeling completely self-conscious. They were clear, and the workshop flowed with ease that took us into questions and reflections of the process.”
“Therapeutic, relaxing, and a safe space.”
“Brilliant, relaxing afternoon. Great space, facilities, and vibe. Thank you.”

Hi, I’m Oz — founder of Green on the Lanes, an indoor plant and lifestyle store in the heart of Harringay Green Lanes. My love for plants began with turning my own flat into a mini jungle, and that passion grew into creating a space where others could bring that same joy into their homes.
At Green on the Lanes, we don’t just sell plants — we create experiences. Our terrarium and kokedama workshops are a chance to get your hands in the soil, slow down, and make something living that you can take home and nurture. My wonderful team and I love teaching because it gives people confidence to care for plants, and it’s so rewarding to see someone’s face light up when they create something beautiful.
When I’m not running workshops, you’ll find me in the store surrounded by plants, chatting with customers over coffee, chai, or matcha. Green on the Lanes is as much a community space as it is a shop — filled with plants, curated homewares, and the smell of freshly brewed coffee.
If you’re looking for a fun, creative activity for yourself, friends, or your team, I’d love to welcome you to one of our sessions. Let’s get growing!
