On the hunt for one-of-a-kind handmade gift ideas or fun things to do in London with a group? Come and learn how to piece together your own magnificent mosaic at this all-day workshop in Holborn!

You'll learn from expert mosaicist Giulia, who will help you experiment with the indirect method of mosaic making, where the piece is formed backwards on paper in a mirror image and then flipped onto the wooden support and grouted.

This one-day mosaic workshop is a great chance to learn about the history and evolution of mosaic as you get hands-on and have a go yourself. You'll pick up plenty of top tips from your teacher as you sit back, relax and let your creativity take over!

In this workshop, you'll cover:

  • Introduction to the course and the technique.
  • Selection of the design and materials.
  • How to transfer/ draw an image to prepare the creation of a mosaic.
  • How to cut and shape tiles to create your own mosaic using mosaic nippers.
  • How to create a mosaic using Andamento (layout) technique.
  • The indirect method: glueing your tesserae on brown paper and then flipping it onto the wooden support.
  • How to complete and grout your mosaic.

You'll finish this beginner-friendly craft class with a potential new passion and an exquisite mosaic to take home and treasure or gift to a loved one!

Please note:
If you wish to bring your own design it will need to be agreed upon with the tutor in advance before the start of the workshop.

The course will only run with a minimum of 2 students

Giulia Manzoni is an Italian Graduated Mosaicist from the Mosaic School of Spilimbergo in Italy, gaining a complete mosaic education spanning from history and design to fabrication and installation. Now based in London, Giulia has collaborated on numerous projects, such as the floor restoration of the Victoria and Albert Museum. She is also involved in several bespoke mosaic projects and mosaic teaching.

Her mosaic teaching experience started in 2014 when she worked as Costumer Mosaic Designer in a mosaic studio based in San Francisco. After moving to London, at the end of 2016, she was part of the teaching team at the Southbank Mosaic and after at the London School of Mosaic for a short time before starting her own mosaic courses.
