Using natural indigo dye to colour textiles is an ancient art form that has been practiced around the world for centuries. Indigo dye produces a range of blue shades that are both beautiful and versatile. The indigo dye workshop is an experience that allows participants to learn about the ancient art of dyeing fabrics with natural indigo dye. Participants can explore the fascinating process of creating beautiful blue hues using indigo dye.

During this two-hour long workshop, you will be guided on natural dye techniques step by step in a beginner-friendly way, as you create a beautiful scarf and a dyed piece of fabric. The tutor will also teach you how to make beautiful and unique tie dye patterns on your scarf! The workshop is friendly for beginners.

Indigo dye has a long history and cultural significance in different parts of the world, including among the Miao people of China. The Miao, also known as Hmong, have used indigo dye for centuries to create beautiful, intricate. For the Miao people, blue symbolizes harmony, peace, and prosperity, and is often used in their traditional clothing and other textiles. Indigo dyeing continues to be an important part of Miao culture today, and Miao artisans still practice the traditional methods of indigo dyeing and batik. During the workshop, the tutor will talk about the stories of the Miao people and share her trip to Miao villages. To explore the beauty of traditional craft techniques, the tutor will bring some Miao batik fabrics that you can see and touch.
