Join OITIJ-JO Kitchen for a three-part cooking workshop and explore the bold, comforting flavours of Bengali home cooking. This is a wonderful activity for anyone curious about Bengali food and culture, with no prior experience needed.
Over three Wednesday evenings, you will learn how to create traditional dishes from scratch with guidance from a woman-led social enterprise. At the end of each hands-on session, you'll sit down with your fellow classmates to enjoy the delicious meal you've all prepared.
Your weekly cooking schedule:
  • Session 1 – 21st August: Bhorta – Discover the art of smoky, mashed vegetables and proteins, a cornerstone of Bangladeshi comfort food.
  • Session 2 – 28th August: Pitha – Make sweet and savoury handmade rice cakes from scratch that are delicate, festive, and full of cultural history.
  • Session 3 – 4th September: Roti & Masala Curry – Create flaky, layered flatbreads paired with a rich, slow-cooked masala, cooked the traditional way.
Whether you're joining for all three sessions or just coming along to one, you’ll finish this series with a renewed sense of confidence in the kitchen and the skills to recreate these comforting meals at home, along with a deeper appreciation for Bengali culture.

Exhibitions
We have been presenting exhibitions across London since 2011, with a focus on celebrating & sharing Bangla rooted creative arts with the public in the UK. Future Oitij-Jo presentations aims to inspire & focus on emerging talents from the British-Bangla community.
Events
We are focused on presenting diverse cultural events, from curating festivals, to presenting intimate events. The events programming will be focused on having critical discourse, and celebrating the diverse cultural heritage that the global Bangla community have to share.
Network
Our network is an informal community of artists, creatives and professionals. This network is focused on supporting and promoting next generation British-Bangla talent, and enabling them to connect and access knowledge.
Workshops
We have hosted, conducted & presented workshops across art, craft, food, fashion, photography and beyond. Oitij-Jo presents workshops with women and young people based in Tower Hamlets. These workshops have been focused on engaging with people to explore aspects of British-Bangla narrative.

OITIJ-JO’s vision is to present creative excellence and achievement of Bengali traditions in the arts and crafts, by all means to enrich and enhance their present perception and to ensure and prosper their lively practice.
OBJECTIVES:
* To promote and share awareness, understanding, appreciation and development of Bengali arts, crafts and cultural heritage in all forms of their expression, for the general benefit of the people of the United Kingdom, and especially of communities or districts associated in any particular manner with the south Asian region of Bengal.
* To advance education and training in knowledge and skills relevant to the commercial practice of specific domestic crafts including but not restricted to creative work with foods and with fabrics, in particular among British Bengali women and young people.

* Dedicated to providing creative collaborations and platforms in order to enhance British/Bangladesh engagement with wider global, national and local urban and rural communities.
* Driving positive social and economic change through inspiring contemporary creative cultures and connections that support new meanings to design and innovation narratives.
