You will create and take home a hydrangea painting in batik, full of soft transitions and elegant details.

3.5 hours Class size 1 to 6 guests

  £35 - £50 (price varies across dates)

Join this hydrangea batik art class in Salford and discover the beautiful art of fabric painting in a warm, welcoming environment. You'll spend a relaxing session learning how to create an exquisite floral piece, watching gentle colour transitions come to life right before your eyes.
Your experienced teacher will guide you through every stage of the process, ensuring you feel supported as you try out both cold and hot batik techniques. It's a low-pressure way to get hands-on with a new craft, and you'll find it easy to switch off and focus on your creativity while your instructor provides step-by-step assistance.
During this workshop, you'll:
  • Master cold and hot batik methods – Learn the fundamental techniques for applying wax and dye to fabric.
  • Create soft colour blends – Explore how to transition shades smoothly to bring your hydrangea to life.
  • Work with professional tools – Use all the materials provided to build your artwork from scratch.
By the end of the session, you'll have gained the confidence to continue exploring this traditional craft at home. You'll leave with your finished hydrangea masterpiece, which can be framed as a painting, sewn into a decorative pillow, or even worn as a stylish scarf, giving you a beautiful handmade keepsake to show off.
Please note: All materials are provided, so you don't need to bring anything along.

  • 5/5 from Angela Jacklin, attended Oct 2026: This was a great class. Elena was an excellent tutor. Friendly, helpful and inspiring. It was very easy to book the class, there were lots of dates to choose from. My friend and I were delighted with our finished products. Highly recommended
  • 5/5 from Caroline Davies, attended Oct 2026: Absolutely amazing class! Easy to follow instructions with help on hand at every step (along with lots of encouragement). I have created a beautiful Batik hydrangea to hang on my wall at home (with clear instructions on how to frame it). Lovely lunch included. Fantastic hidden gem of a venue. Can not wait to share this class with friends and family. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a relaxing, interesting, interactive way to spend a day.
  • 5/5 from Carol Fletcher, attended Oct 2026: I gifted my daughters this experience. They both thoroughly enjoyed the the learning process, mixing the colours and painting on the silk. Highly recommend.
  • 5/5 from Zack Parker, attended Oct 2026: Really amazing class with an art form I was largely unaware of. We were taken through each step of the techniques with a demonstration and coaching, making sure we were all comfortable and able. Our teacher was absolutely fabulous and obviously very experienced and excited about batik. It does take time to complete, but at no point did we feel rushed and we were all happy to take our time finding the right colours and technique that worked for us. Genuinely such a lovely class, and has really inspired me to look into more batik!
  • 5/5 from Christine Amica, attended Oct 2026: I very much enjoyed the workshop. Elena was a good teacher, she gave one to one and group support. She provided guidance, was supportive and patient. She was friendly and the class had a really nice vibe. I would recommend this workshop. I plan to buy it for a birthday gift for a friend. I'll look out for more courses delivered by Elena.

  • 5/5 from Effat Saeem, attended Sep 2026: I really enjoyed every minute of this class especially my teacher Elena was very helpful and friendly.only thing is that I want to go more often and it’s going to be expensive. But I love what we created.
  • 5/5 from Jennifer Brewin, attended Sep 2026: Teacher was very good, very artistic too. She explained all the procedures very well and the time flew by, lost in a whirl of picking colours etc. A very enjoyable few hours.
  • 5/5 from Pamela Frearson, attended Aug 2026: The course was fabulous and the teaching excellent. It was my first attempt and went home with something that looked fabulous (in my novice opinion). Very interested to travel back and paint something else. It was fun and therapeutic and gave a huge sense of achievement
  • 5/5 from Jane Woodall, attended Aug 2026: Thoroughly enjoyed this class and very happy with the beautiful painting on satin I completed. I can now frame it or make a cushion cover. Elena is a superb artist who carefully and patiently took us through every step, never rushing us so we got the best result. Highly recommend this class for a lovely relaxing time.
  • 5/5 from Louise Fairclough, attended Aug 2026: I went with my friend and we had never done anything like this before. Our teacher was very nice and made everything seem easy. The class was very relaxed and we were not rushed at all. The class carried on over time until we had all finished and we all went home with lovely individual pieces of art we were proud of. I highly recommend going to this class, we are already planning to go again when she is using a new design.
  • 5/5 from Sharon Robinson, attended Aug 2026: I loved every minute of my class. I have been on lots of this type of class, but this was by far the best. The teacher was a lovely person and a fabulous teacher.
  • 5/5 from Vikki Hurst, attended Aug 2026: Highly recommend this class. Every aspect was thiught through and well presented. Elena is clearly very knowledgeable, she was supportive and encouraging, providing advice but also listening to petsonalise the class.
  • 5/5 from Gillian Curson, attended Aug 2026: This is a super day well spent. I loved sharing Elenas studio. She is a thoughtful, supportive and generous tutor. • 5/5 from Pamela O, attended Aug 2026: We were a group of 6 friends enjoying a reunion in Manchester. Elayna was our teacher to create a Batik Hydrangea- we were all total novices, but by the end of the session we had created artwork that we are proud to display. It was a very relaxed environment and Elayna instructed us individually. We needed to stay beyond the advertised time, and Elayna provided us with refreshments including home made pizza! Overall a rewarding, fulfilling experience and those of us who live locally intend to return. It was a cold Batik method, so no wax was involved, but we used permanent fabric paint, so be advised to wear oldish clothes or bring an apron!!!.
  • 5/5 from Ben Barnes, attended Aug 2026: This was a really great class. Our teacher was very knowledgeable and helped to make my design what I wanted. She was very hospitable and provided a lovely environment for the class. Will definitely be booking again and bringing others along
  • 4/5 from Morna Lincoln, attended Aug 2026: Tutor was obviously and excellent artist and helpful throughout and was patient and accommodating when time ran over. My only reason for giving 4 stars not five is that in the advert the outlining gutta is gold as well a s some black and we only used black which doesn't quite give the finished piece the same 'pop'.

Hello! I’m Elena McLaren, and I specialize in the beautiful art of batik.
My creative journey began in Europe, but I truly found my calling in Manchester, where I studied Art and Technology at MANCAT College and later earned a degree in Visual Arts from the University of Manchester. I also continued my artistic education in Italy at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Macerata.
My introduction to batik came during a challenging period while I was caring for my mother. It was then that I discovered this fascinating silk-painting technique, which quickly became my passion. Over the years, I have trained with renowned masters, participated in international exhibitions, received awards, and developed my own artistic style. My work has been exhibited internationally, including on platforms such as Saatchi Art and Artmajeur, and I have been a member of the Eurasian Art Union since 2021.
One of the greatest joys of my work is sharing my knowledge and experience through workshops. I have taught batik to students of all ages and abilities, helping them discover the unique beauty of painting on silk. Whether creating a scarf, a decorative panel, or a framed artwork, I believe everyone has the ability to create something truly special.
I would be delighted to meet you and inspire you to explore your own creative potential through the wonderful art of batik!
