Most of our workshops are led by colleagues from Hobbycraft stores across the UK, including craft experts from our Hobbycraft Artisan programme. They use their expertise in specific areas of craft to create workshops that show participants new skills and inspire future projects.

I bought this workshop for my granddaughter following the purchase of a Hobbycraft sewing machine for her 10th birthday. Millie is very shy with new people and Alice’s gentle approach helped her gain confidence with the machine. The hour tutorial went very quickly and I think Millie really benefitted from the 1:1 support. As Millie’s Mum and myself are not confident seamstresses ourselves, we needed to ensure that Millie would leave the session feeling confident in using her new sewing machine. We encouraged Alice to allow Millie to develop her skills by dealing with minor hiccups herself, such as thread becoming jammed etc. rather than Alice doing it for her.

This is probably class number 6 we've had and Emma was great. She was very patient and helpful with my 4 year old when making the pipe cleaner wand and flower.

As usual all the materials were included in our price for booking. We can't wait to book another class.

I took my 3 granddaughters to the clay model making session. Only £4 a head yet surprisingly we were the only ones to attend! Everything provided. Excellent parking available.
The crafter was very patient with all 3 girls - a 3yr old, a 5 yr old and a 10 yr old.
My only negative observation would be that the session is not long enough for the children to get the full experience! I would happily pay at least double for a 45 min or 1 hour session

Really enjoyed the workshop, Dan who led it was very engaging and explained to my daughter and her friend how to create their crafts, but was also encouraging them to be creative too. Really enjoyed it. Good value for money, and allowed to take remaining materials at home as they would've dried out if left.

Took 8 year old son to Easter clay animal crafting workshop. He really enjoyed it. The teacher was very helpful and friendly and very good at demonstrating how to create a sheep and bunny with the provided clay.
The workshop was great value and my boy was delighted to take his creations home

Dan was very good at explaining and seeing where he could help with holding the hook, coordinating the the wool and seeing where you were going wrong. I learnt so much and he was very clear with his instructions.
The bag of kit was very much appreciated along with the crochet worksheet to take away.

Lovely, helpful and patient teacher. All materials provided were good quality and the price was fair. Unfortunately, the printed instructions, which I needed alongside the teacher’s instructions, only used images for a right-handed person and I found them too confusing to follow. I didn’t really get anywhere with learning to crotchet as a result.

Emma took me through starting with a sewing machine, feeding and loading thread, basic errors and helped me feel confident. She talked about experiences with machines and this was great, I’d prefer to learn from someone who understands and has learnt themselves. We talked through projects and I practiced following lines and swirls. It was really good to have a 121 and I enjoyed learning. Thanks Emma

My 8 year old really enjoyed making a canvas with his initial on. The venue was quiet and had enough space. All the materials were supplied and the teacher was helpful and encouraging and good at demonstrating how to make the initial stand out and various panting techniques with the sponges.
It was good value for money and he loved putting his print on his bedroom wall

I had a one to one sewing lesson this morning which was great.
I went in as more than a beginner but not quite confident to go ahead and make garments.

My tutor was very welcoming on arrival, she made sure I was comfortable and asked what I wanted to learn, she had a good idea already, but didnt make the lesson static. The learning was fluid, I had a chance to ask to be taught different things that I hadn't highlighted before hand when booking.

Mostly, I wanted to learn how to read and make the most out of my sewing patterns. My tutor was careful and handled the patterns I'd brought from home with care, giving me helpful tips along the way on how to keep longevity of my patterns (download the patterns from the manificturers website, copy the pattern on tracing paper in case I change shape/clothes size or if a friend wants the same garment making).

Although I've used my sewing machine multipule times, I was still unsure on tension settings and various sewing feet, which hadnt my tutor of explained things in such lovely detail, I wouldnt have asked. She went through everything and showed me multipule times to ensure my learning.

I appreciated how patient and understanding she was with my questions and learning. She was obviously a seasoned sewer, but she spoke to me as if we were on the same understanding, which helped me learn.

After the lesson, she took me to products she recommended/I enquired about and talked me through the best and easiest ones to use.

Superb. Thank you! When I put my new learnt skills into action, I'll certainly be back for another lesson!

A fabulous one on one class taught by Ellis. She explained everything so well to me and I feel so much more confident now. She went through how how set up my sewing machine, the different parts of the sewing machine and how to use it. I was able to stitch together my cardigan that had torn at the seam and made a little pouch with a zip. Ellis was great and I would really recommend her classes.

I was thinking it would be a group session but when I got there it was one to one which I liked. The equipment that I used was easy enough to get on with. I enjoyed the session so much that I bought the pens extra gift bags both smaller coloured bags and brown bags and am going to decorate them for birthday gift bags

The materials were good and we enjoyed creating our Christmas characters (snowmen, santa and a panda!). The instructor was friendly and showed us how to make the characters. We were also able to take the leftover clay back to school and made some more characters there. The space upstairs was OK and was private for our group.

This is the second workshop with the hobbycraft instructor Dan. He was very friendly and chatted throughout the class. Lots of christmas ideas and inspiration. My 11 yr old felt happy to ask questions. Great selection tion of materials and tips how to mix clay to create new colours. Molly created quite a few christmas characters. Great price, great amount of time and nice and peaceful craft environment. Box provided to safely transport craft home. Thankyou

The class instructor Emily was lovely and we were a few minutes late but she patiently talked us through the first spooky model and we soon caught up.

Wonderful class.
Dan at Newport was really helpful and patient had lots of ideas and chatted about future workshops while also recognising some children from previous workshops which gave a lovely familiar feel. Lots of time to create the perfect pumpkin in a hour. All craft materials supplied with great size pumpkin. My 11 yr old enjoyed and really wants to join in again . I attended a beginners crochet class a few days ago at the Newport store and was a little nervous. I am SO glad I plucked up the courage to go as its given me SO much confidence to keep going with my crochet journey!
The teachers name was Dan and he was SO lovely, he took the time to ensure we understood each stitch and was so patient and kind. He even made sure we had a little time at the end to answer any other crochet related questions and I really appreciated that as crochet can be quite tricky!
All the staff at the Newport store are great and on hand to answer any questions you may have.
We were provided with quality materials and even a little tote bag to take away - so cute!
I'd recommend the classes to anyone and even better better with the 20% off at the moment! I will be booking more for sure x

Pippa was great however, the workshop was low on materials. They didnt have a printer so she couldn't demo some features of the cricut. Pippa did the best with what was available. She showed us how to use the apps on the phone/ ipad. The venue is easily accessible with plenty of free parking.
Overall, it was a great session, good value for money.

This class was nowhere near as good as the previous class we went to and I think if this was the first one I’d signed up for, I wouldn’t bother again!
The person taking the class was not very friendly or ‘happy’, she didn’t even introduce herself, just counted the children and started! The children had a job to keep up with her and rather than adapt her style to this, every parent ended up helping their child, which was not an issue but the vibe here was not welcoming at all.

Really great session with Alice in Newport. Kids loved the demonstration and got to take their models and the unused clay from the packs home. Kids loved it so much we bought more clay to take home.

This was my first workshop with Hobbycraft and my daughter Arwen absolutely loved it, so we are going to make it a regular experience.

Pippa was absolutely brilliant, very lovely and helpful with Arwen giving some lovely suggestions for the Easter bonet. She even asked if we would like to use a cool melt gun rather than thr standard hot gun, which meant Arwen was able to use it herself.

I would highly recommend a workshop. I'm already looking for another one!

Ellis was fantastic with my granddaughter. She was enthusiastic and quickly made a 4 year old feel comfortable.
She was very supportive during the activity. She gave ideas but encouraged my granddaughter to use her own ideas and do things her way. There was a range of resources to choose from and Ellis found particular craft bits to help my granddaughter achieve the design she wanted.
We were very happy with the end result of the craft project and would definitely attend another workshop in the future.

Lovely lady, very informative and answered every question I had. Ran through drawing/writing, cutting cardstock and vinyl, showed me how to do things on design space and switching out the different tools. Overall great session and helped me a lot!

I think it may well be Easter before the copious amount of paint applied to the canvas by my 4 yr old will be dry enough to remove the tape to reveal her initial

Our teacher was Alice, she was kind, patient and friendly. Enjoyed the class but would like more with her to continue to learn stitches and develop skills. Also would like to do Push Needle with her, but currently no classes in the Newport or Cardiff branches, would love to learn this skill.

My 9 year old daughter had Alice as her teacher. Alice was kind, clear and allowed ruby to learn techniques at a fabulous pace for Ruby. So much that they completed a tutorial and made a double strung large bag! Alice lead on her machine and Ruby followed on another machine. Allowing Ruby to see and learn for herself with led tuition. It was brilliantly done. A fabulous result and a wonderful time thanks to Alice.
We will be retuning. The venue was ideal easy to park and access the shop. Thank you

I decided to book this workshop with my 8yr old daughter. She’d been wanting to learn and I thought it could be something different for us to do together. We both loved it and Alice the teacher was amazing. Very patient and encouraging. Everyone in the class had plenty of her time for one-to-one help and guidance and she adjusted her teaching to each of our ability. We all came away having succeeded in making and learning something new.
The only thing that stops me giving this experience 5 stars was the temperature of the building. Too cold. I believe the heating system was currently out of action. Once this is fixed I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone wanting to learn crochet.

The venue was great as it was away from the shop floor which made it easier to concentrate.
The one to one tuition was well given and all my questions were answered.
I learnt about the different vinyls etc and there uses.

WOW what an amazing Christmas clay decoration and gift tag workshop, my friend and I attended today.
Our teacher was amazing, so friendly, welcoming, extremely helpful and very talented.
Upon arrival we were given our very own box which included everything we needed for the workshop.
Although we were there for an hour and a half, it went way too quickly; could you make it a little longer pretty please?
When the workshop had finished we were told we could take our box, materials, left over clay and whatever we had made with us.
It was awesome; would highly recommend this wonderfully creative workshop to help bring out the inner child in you

Great class. Ended up being a 1-1 session, but it was calm and relaxed. The young lady running the class was lovely and gave clear instructions but also gave me options or making it my own and being creative. It was my first and certainly not my last session.

Would love if it was possible to book it as two sessions deal as it wasn’t possible to finish the project in the two hours.

The store itself was well stocked, clean and the workshop area was really well signposted and set up great. We were the only people booked into the workshop and because of this it was really quiet. We have a bigger pumpkin than we were supposed to as the store had run out however this meant that an hour definitely was not long enough to finish it. I doubt it would have been with a smaller pumpkin anyway. This then meant we had to buy the materials to finish off at home therefore I'm not entirely sure that it was good value for money on this occasion.

I really enjoyed my learning experience, the young teacher was most helpful and experienced. I am now able to achieve a style of crochet I have tried to master for several years.
The kit given was quite good, quality of yarn was a bit disappointing, but ok.
Would definitely try another workshop.

Alice was lovely, taught us very well and was patient with my 4 yr old. Venue was great, and the materials were really nice. This was a free craft class which was amazing as I wasn’t 100% sure if my daughter was old enough to participate. She was and really enjoyed it, however at her age found the hour a bit long.
I actually didn’t know about the workshops for kids and now I do I’ll deffo be booking again, and have already recommended them to my friends.

The mask workshop was fun and our kids enjoyed it. The maker was absolutely brilliant with them. But one hour to make one cardboard mask was a bit tedious after half an hour. The masks are cheaply bought in a pack and it would've been nice for the kids to make two. And perhaps in two different styles ie paint one, embellish another.

Really useful class to learn the basics of using the machine, how to thread, different stitches and machine features. Was given templates to practice on and shown some practical tips such as how to sew a hem on trousers. Was surprised it was a 1-2-1 class so great value for money.

Great little session for the kids. I live in Bristol but we did the class in Newport, which is smaller store but in a good location. The session was calm and relaxed upstairs away from shoppers. The coordinator was happy to mix up / get extra colours and tools. My kids weren't sure about going initially but really got into it, and were very proud of the artwork they got to take home. We were able to let their paintings dry in Hobbycraft whilst we went into the Tesco next door. Saved getting paint all over the car!

It was an hour long workshop making Dino fossils. My child had finished in half an hour. Teacher was great with the kids, really knowledgeable. My son enjoyed the activity, it’s given him some ideas on things to do at home and we got to try a new modelling product which was good.

The lady was lovely and gave good explanations as she was demonstrating the technique.
The Venue should have provided toilet facilities, was told they were for staff only. The tables should have been longer, it all felt a bit squashed for five people working. But overall I’m glad I attended, it was good to actually try out the technique. I felt I learned a lot about the setting up and what would be needed to take this skill further.

Ellis the teacher was great. Very funny and put us all at ease.
Perhaps adding a better punch needle or more appropriately sized Aida to accommodate the punch needle you do currently supply would be better as the needle was too big for the Aida supplied.

Amazing workshop. I learned multiple knots in only 1,5 hours. Pippa was really helpful, patient and we had a nice chat along the workshop. I would definadly recommend this to people interested to learn macrame knots.

Alison was great. I’ve come away confident that the button holes I want to use as a feature on my skirt will be fine. I brought samples of the fabric I was intending to use made my mind up by having a go with it.

What was the teacher like?
sorry I can't remember her name, lovely and easy to talk to.she explained every very clearly and helped when I got stuck, which was quite often
How was the venue?
IT was ok, it was upstairs which is''nt open to the public it was a bit like store room. I was offered something to drink which was much appreciated
If materials were provided, did you like them?
Yes I was very happy with the with the materials provided
Was the class good value for money?
I think so but never having done again like before I'm not sure
What did you do / learn?
I learnt to do a chain and the start of a blanket square, but I was quite slow picking it as I held the crochet hook like a knitting needle. I enjoyed the course just wish I was better at it. It was very annoying that I could'nt do it

What a great class we had trying out the Brush Lettering. It was so exciting opening our boxes to see all the goodies inside. The teacher was very helpful and provided examples for us and demonstrated any tricky letters as well as showing us more suitable pen grip. A nice small group of 4 so it felt more intimate. The lesson flew by so quickly which shows that we were enjoying it and concentrating very hard! I would definitely recommend this very calming and therapeutic class and after further practise at home with my pack, I feel more confident putting it into practise on my classroom displays. Thanks for a lovely afternoon.

I've never done crochet and wanted to start. This course was great for beginners like me. The craft room was very spacious and well equipped. The person I had to teacher me was very good and went through all the basics of crocheting. As I am a leftie she was able to show me how to crochet left handed. She was left and right handed which was great. The course was for an hour and half which for me was plenty of time to learn the basics. The pack i received had 5 balls of yarn, crochet hook, craft needle, and bag to store all your things in. I was pleasantly surprised by how much you got. What I will say is the pattern the give you is for more advance crocheters so the lady there did her own pattern for beginners. The price for the course was well worth the money. When I was leaving I was given information on other crochet groups held at the shop and told that if I have any questions I can go back to the shop for advice. I left there being able to crochet and I am now in the middle of crocheting my first blanket. I would say that better advertising of these course as it took me ages to find the course and only came by this one by chance.

I loved the idea of a workshop and it was great to have everything in one place with lots of additional materials to use laid out when we arrived, so there were plenty of things for us to use to make the wreath. For the cost I expected more by way of instruction on how to put the wreath together but a good way to spend an hour

I had a lovely time and really enjoyed the workshop. The lady that took it was really pleasant and friendly. I liked the fact that she made items using the kit too. The hour went really quickly and it was fun. The kit had loads of items in it and was great value for money. I didn't use all the items in the kit today so I am looking forward to making some more decorations at home. I will be looking to book another workshop very soon. Today was the second workshop I have attended and both were really enjoyable and great value for money. A great opportunity to try something new.

I really enjoyed was made to feel at ease and not silly. I had some very good tips on making cake toppers and writing on cards. Also how to use the design space with iPad and not just using the laptop which made things easier

Had my second Cricut lesson at Newport Hobbycraft store with EllisEllis is very knowledgeable and I was able to ask questions about areas of the craft I'm struggling with.Would highly recommend these one to one sessions as it's an expensive craft and it's quicker that trawling through endless YouTube videos

As a new owner of a cricut machine and not having a clue how to start,decided on attending the workshop to get me up and running.
It was well worth it!
Ellis,my tutor,being an avid crafter herself ,as I discovered,took me through the basics but also checked what elements I was interested in and concentrated on them. It was not only informative but very personalised to suit my needs.
I was given the opportunity to practice as all the equipment and supplies were readily available,and I left with a tote bag which I had successfully embellished with heat transfer vinyl.
I really enjoyed it and will be booking further sessions with Ellis ,to extend my knowledge of the capabilities of the Cricut craft
Would highly recommend the workshop to anyone who is daunted by the prospect of learning a new machine/craft and like me, dislike trawling through hours of online instructional video's.

Our 7 year old daughter loved this event! The teacher was really friendly and patient and showed her the best way to mix paints and how to create different events using water. She's been taking her time to finish her creation at home with the paints she came home with; all in a lovely box with other bits. Would definitely do another session; a great way to break up the holidays!
