One-to-one Sewing Workshop

Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Srimaye Nallamsetty, attended Sep 2026: She’s awesome. I’ve learned about different basic stitches and done some tutorials. As a beginner with little knowledge is quite good.
  • 5/5 from Emma Jenkins, attended Aug 2026: She was great and very patient. Made me feel more confident with a sewing machine. I’m looking forward to playing around with my machine soon.
  • 5/5 from Rose Andrews, attended Jun 2026: Very patient teacher who helped with the very basics such as threading, different stitches, needle changes etc. Worth the money and would come back for another course once I need more help with zipping, piping, and other more 'advanced' techniques.
  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended May 2026: Hi There Re: Introduction to Sewing Machine I am a total beginner with sewing machines, having always hand sewn out of fear that I couldn't use a machine. I recently bought myself a machine and booked in with tutor Alice. Clearly Alice is extremely knowledgeable, yet she put me at complete ease when I explained I'm totally new to this. She made me feel comfortable when asking the most basic of questions (basic but a minefield for a newbie), she was fun and has the most lovely personality. There wasn't anything that I asked that she couldn't answer. She went at my speed rather than rushing. Having never used a machine before, I left being able to do all basic tasks and came away with more knowledge than I had expected. It's a rarity to be with someone who can answer anything you throw at them, to be able to learn at your own speed and to be asked what I'd like to know next. Alice kept checking in to see if I needed to go over an area again and gave me so many really useful tips. My life is very stressful at moment and I don't have much time to myself at all. Not only did I have an hour away to do something for myself and learn new things, but I was with someone who didn't make me feel stupid and helped me forget life stresses for that moment. I took so much away from that hour, it was quite unbelievable. I'm now booking more classes, ongoing, with Alice. I can't praise Alice and the course structure enough, absolutely brilliant all round, really lovely, extremely knowledgeable girl

Thank you Emma, I’m sure you’ll see me again.
  • 5/5 from Megan Edwards, attended Feb 2025: The session was great, Ellis was a brilliant and patient teacher, and was clear throughout, ensuring I understood and was able to ask questions. She showed me and then let me have a go so I got a feel for it - as I learn better from doing. Couldn’t fault her at all, she was great and I now feel confident to have a go using my own sewing machine which I had never even attempted to use beforehand. By the end of the session she taught me to make a scrunchie! Great value for money, I highly recommend. Thank you Ellis!

  • 5/5 from Leanne Bradbury, attended Aug 2024: Learning to sew for the first time. Emma was my tutor. What. Wonderful kind funny lovely young lady a complete credit to your store. Emma was very considerate and understood the issues that I experience with my hands she advised on equipment that could assist me and make things easier for me. Emma was very encouraging and I had a fabulous hour with her and made a cloud for my grandson’s nursery. Being upstairs in the store was fab as it was quiet the sewing machine was set up with plenty of room and I felt at ease. This was the first time that I had threaded a sewing machine and used one. I now feel confident to thread at home on my own and continue with my project. Emma gave me lots of good advice throughout the lesson which I will Certainly do as good practice. The class was excellent value for money. I thought Emma’s guidance was definately the bed to part of the lesson as she was so understanding and encouraging. I am genuinely so excited to continue my sewing journey - Thanks Emma

  • 5/5 from Lynsey Bendon, attended Apr 2024: Really enjoyed the sewing machine workshop. My teacher, Emma was friendly and knowledgeable, I'll definitely come back when I get started with my own machine.
  • 5/5 from Judy Denham, attended Apr 2024: I bought this workshop for my granddaughter following the purchase of a Hobbycraft sewing machine for her 10th birthday. Millie is very shy with new people and Alice’s gentle approach helped her gain confidence with the machine. The hour tutorial went very quickly and I think Millie really benefitted from the 1:1 support. As Millie’s Mum and myself are not confident seamstresses ourselves, we needed to ensure that Millie would leave the session feeling confident in using her new sewing machine. We encouraged Alice to allow Millie to develop her skills by dealing with minor hiccups herself, such as thread becoming jammed etc. rather than Alice doing it for her.
  • 5/5 from Josie Wylie, attended Feb 2024: Excellent lesson for my child Very productive Booking another to learn more with same teacher Very patient Would recommend
  • 5/5 from Leah, attended Feb 2024: Teacher was lovely, the place was good for wheelchair access, I learned a lot on how to start with my sewing machine. It was worth the money
  • 5/5 from Sarah Jones, attended Feb 2024: Emma took me through starting with a sewing machine, feeding and loading thread, basic errors and helped me feel confident. She talked about experiences with machines and this was great, I’d prefer to learn from someone who understands and has learnt themselves. We talked through projects and I practiced following lines and swirls. It was really good to have a 121 and I enjoyed learning. Thanks Emma
  • 5/5 from Heini, attended Feb 2024: I had a one to one sewing lesson this morning which was great. I went in as more than a beginner but not quite confident to go ahead and make garments. My tutor was very welcoming on arrival, she made sure I was comfortable and asked what I wanted to learn, she had a good idea already, but didnt make the lesson static. The learning was fluid, I had a chance to ask to be taught different things that I hadn't highlighted before hand when booking. Mostly, I wanted to learn how to read and make the most out of my sewing patterns. My tutor was careful and handled the patterns I'd brought from home with care, giving me helpful tips along the way on how to keep longevity of my patterns (download the patterns from the manificturers website, copy the pattern on tracing paper in case I change shape/clothes size or if a friend wants the same garment making). Although I've used my sewing machine multipule times, I was still unsure on tension settings and various sewing feet, which hadnt my tutor of explained things in such lovely detail, I wouldnt have asked. She went through everything and showed me multipule times to ensure my learning. I appreciated how patient and understanding she was with my questions and learning. She was obviously a seasoned sewer, but she spoke to me as if we were on the same understanding, which helped me learn. After the lesson, she took me to products she recommended/I enquired about and talked me through the best and easiest ones to use. Superb. Thank you! When I put my new learnt skills into action, I'll certainly be back for another lesson!
  • 5/5 from Tayla Baker-Singh, attended Jan 2024: A fabulous one on one class taught by Ellis. She explained everything so well to me and I feel so much more confident now. She went through how how set up my sewing machine, the different parts of the sewing machine and how to use it. I was able to stitch together my cardigan that had torn at the seam and made a little pouch with a zip. Ellis was great and I would really recommend her classes.
