Future Self Art Workshop

Reclaim your boldest future, on your own terms.

4 hours Class size 10 to 20 guests       £85 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

In this transformative art workshop, you'll learn how to create meaningful self-portraits using traditional African textile techniques and storytelling methods. Throughout the session, you'll develop both creative skills and personal insights while crafting unique artwork that reflects your authentic self.
This reflective experience is specifically designed for Black women and non-binary individuals seeking a space to explore identity and possibility beyond societal constraints. The workshop combines ancestral wisdom with contemporary psychology, offering a powerful alternative to conventional "hustle harder" narratives.
During the session, you'll work with tactile natural materials including bark cloth, raffia palm, and banana fibre to create art that connects with your deepest desires. The process unfolds in three phases: first "unmasking your present" by releasing societal expectations and code-switching fatigue, then "owning your history" by honouring your journey without being limited by it, and finally "designing your future" through journaling and creating art aligned with your personal values rather than external demands.
By the end of this empowering workshop, you'll have created a meaningful textile self-portrait while gaining valuable perspectives on reclaiming your boldest future on your own terms. The approach is grounded in research showing that envisioning your future self enhances resilience and decision-making, while the emphasis on radical rest offers a refreshing path to liberation.
What you'll get
A beautiful canvas to take home at the end.

As a well-being researcher and artist rooted in Black feminist traditions, I blend Afro-somatic practices, Ugandan natural fibres, and communal art to help you stop surviving and start thriving. My work isn’t about fixing you – it’s about freeing you.
After years witnessing Black women and non-binary folk shrink themselves in corporate spaces (and burning out myself), I turned to art as rebellion. My Sisters Need Sleep series and A Space for Resistance and Renewal art installations became sanctuaries for all to rest, heal, and reclaim their humanity.
Through my community wellbeing research, I’ve seen how art liberates where words can’t. You don’t need another hustle – just space to abandon perfectionism and remember who you are beneath the burnout.
