Fused Glass Panel and Solid Wood Stand Workshop

Design and create your own tall, fused glass panel complete with a wooden stand.

2.5 hours Class size 1 to 8 guests       £58

In this workshop, you'll learn how to create your own tall glass panel, perfectly sized to catch the light. Your finished piece will be displayed in a solid oak stand.
Draw inspiration from nature - perhaps a wildflower meadow in full bloom or the shades of blue of the ocean. Perhaps your idea of nature is something more abstract - the choice is yours. You'll discover how to work with an array of eye-catching colours and learn various glass art techniques to achieve your desired effect.
As a beginner-friendly workshop, you'll receive step-by-step guidance throughout the creative process. You'll work with high-quality materials while picking up techniques that help you understand the fundamentals of glass art creation.
Tea/coffee and biscuits are provided to fuel your creativity! Or if your workshop is at Cartlands Tearooms in Kings Heath, the price includes a delicious cream tea.
At the end of the workshop I will take your piece away for fusing in the kiln and it will be ready to collect from the venue in approximately 7-10 days time.

  • 5/5 from Emma Baxter, attended Sep 2026: Fused glass panel with wooden stand. Really enjoyed today’s class. Well organised, there is a book to browse through to give you inspiration for your piece or you can create a design of your own. Everything is clearly explained and you are supported and assisted throughout. Can’t wait to see my finished product.
  • 5/5 from Lesley Adkins, attended Aug 2026: Had a really enjoyable glass fusing workshop on Saturday. The setting was the Cartlands Tea Room in Kings Heath Park and it was lovely. Sue led the workshop and explained everything before we started but was on hand to offer advice and guidance throughout. My mum, mother in law and I found it really relaxing. Looking forward to getting our panels once they have been in the kiln. Highly recommend.

Surprised that I was able to start and finish my glass panel without putting myself under pressure to complete, but the workshop is perfectly paced and Sue is an excellent teacher and created a supportive and relaxed vibe. Turns out everyone had a beautiful glass panel in them :) The light and airy venue in its lovely setting in King's Heath park is ideal. The room temperature was very comfortable and we were well looked after by the attentive staff, who supplied lashings of tea and coffee and delicious fancies to suit all diets. Thank you everyone - what a lovely way to spend the morning!

  • 5/5 from Joan Chesney, attended May 2026: Fun, well-run workshop. Sue gave a great intro and support while we were working on the fused glass panels. The 2 hours flew past, but was just the right length for the project. Nice class size too.
  • 4/5 from Ms. Karen Orwin, attended May 2026: The class was enjoyable on the whole. It was adverised as running from 10.00-12.30, however several people including myself had completed the piece by 11.45 and although there was ample time to make another smaller piece - such as a pendant, we were told that was not possible. We were then told the session was over by 12.10. Disappointing really.

I’m Sue and my story with glass starts in a very similar way to yours if you are searching here with an interest in glass fusing. I tried a glass taster workshop at the school where I worked and was hooked! I dabbled, I made pieces for friends and then took a deep breath and bought a kiln! Fast forward five years, and here I am sharing my love for glass with others in my workshops, while remembering my beginnings and allowing you to take it at your pace with as much support as you need.
My inspiration is colour! My favourites are blues and greens but glass is sensational in any colour and when it comes out of the kiln, the end result always makes me smile.
