A festive fused glass workshop with a delicious cream tea.

2.5 hours Location Birmingham Class size 4 to 8 guests   £58

Get into the festive spirit at this Christmas fused glass workshop, held in the lovely setting of Cartlands Tearoom in Kings Heath Park.
In this two-and-a-half-hour activity, you will learn how to create your own fused glass candle shade for a tea-light, as well as a hanging Christmas tree decoration. These beautiful items make perfect handmade gifts, or you could keep them to decorate your own home for Christmas.
You don't need any experience with glass fusing to join in. This workshop is perfect for beginners as no glass cutting is required. I will provide all the tools and materials you need to design and assemble your Christmassy creations. After the class, your pieces will be fired in my kiln and returned to the tearoom for you to collect within seven days. Please note that your candle shade may be attached to a glass tea-light holder or placed into a wooden stand, subject to availability.
To make the experience even more special, the price of your workshop includes a delicious cream tea afterwards in the tearoom.

  • 5/5 from Stacie McCann & Sam Fry, attended Dec 2025: Today we attended the Fused Glass Christmas decorations with cream tea workshop & wow, what a pleasant surprise. Sue is such a lovely lady and a pleasure to craft with, she is super helpful, supportive and on hand to help, advise and assist should you be struggling or just need a little direction. We had a fantastic time and left feeling so festive! We made not one but three decorations which was a huge surprise and bonus! We feel the workshop was in a perfect location, the cream tea was delicious and it was so worth the money. We had a truly lovely morning and will recommend to friends and family. Thanks so much :)
  • 5/5 from Maxine Chapman, attended Dec 2025: A most enjoyable Fused Glass Christmas Decorations Workshop. We made three different Christmas decorations - a tea light panel, a hanging tree decoration, and an icicle. Very friendly and professional guidance, inspiring samples and pictures, plenty of materials, and lots of support. Thoroughly pleasant and sociable morning. Lovely cream tea too. Ideal gift for any craft oriented mum's or aunties out there - or, I guess, dad's and uncles too!! Now its fingers crossed the decorations come OUT of the kiln looking even more lovely then when they went in their travel boxes!
  • 5/5 from Victoria Lee, attended Dec 2025: I did a Christmas workshop with a cream tea and I had the best time. Sue was lovely, knowledgeable, helpful and encouraging. The activities, a candle holder and 2 different tree decorations, occupied my brain completely, leaving me no room for seasonal stress. Cartlands tea room provided not only a cosy venue but an outstanding cream tea too, I cannot fault it. I came home smiling and feeling I spared.

I’m Sue and my story with glass starts in a very similar way to yours if you are searching here with an interest in glass fusing. I tried a glass taster workshop at the school where I worked and was hooked! I dabbled, I made pieces for friends and then took a deep breath and bought a kiln! Fast forward five years, and here I am sharing my love for glass with others in my workshops, while remembering my beginnings and allowing you to take it at your pace with as much support as you need.
My inspiration is colour! My favourites are blues and greens but glass is sensational in any colour and when it comes out of the kiln, the end result always makes me smile.
