Fashion Antidote is run by Susan Backhouse who is a successful business woman and highly experienced women’s wear designer with wide experience within the fashion industry. She has extensive practice in education as a trainer, tutor and senior university lecturer in fashion, teaching at institutions such as the University of East London and the London College of Fashion. She has run several successful fashion businesses and gained a prominent level of achievement and recognition as a fashion designer and educator. Susan ran her own fashion labels “Susan Backhouse” and “SUB conscious” throughout the 80’s and early 90’s. She showed regularly at London Fashion Week. Her collections were stocked in prestigious stores in the U.K. and around the world, such as Harvey Nichols, Harrods, Liberty, Macy's and Saks Fifth Avenue.Susan established Fashion Antidote on 2008. Originally based in East London, Fashion Antidote offered a range of fashion courses specialising in technical and creative skills for aspiring fashion entrepreneurs, industry professionals as well as home sewers and hobbyists.Susan retired in 2023 and now offers pop up Learn to Sew courses for beginners in North London based at 4 Otters Craft Studio in Blue House Yard. The classes are suitable for absolute beginners as well as those with basic skills who wish to gain a professional finish to their sewing projects. Women, Men and Teenagers are all welcome. We can take you from the very first steps of threading a machine to gaining skills to make or alter your clothes all in a short space of time.
