Transfer the Design

Transfer the Design

Place the black tracing paper on top of your coaster base. Then place the design sheet face down over the tracing paper. Use a pencil to trace the design, transferring the pattern onto the coaster.


Shape Your Design

Shape Your Design

Next, it's time for the delicate wirework. With your pattern as a guide, you'll learn how to carefully bend and place the bronze wire, creating the elegant outlines for your design.


Fill with Colour

Fill with Colour

This is where you can really let your personality shine! Mix your own unique shades from a selection of colourful sand, then carefully fill in your wire design. It’s a wonderfully satisfying process, almost like painting with sand.


Give it a Glossy Finish

Give It a Glossy Finish

Once your colourful design is set, you'll learn how to apply a special sealing glue. This final touch protects your artwork and gives it a beautiful, glossy finish that makes the colours truly stand out.

In this elegant craft workshop in Manchester, you will learn how to make your very own decorative wire art enamel floral coaster. Inspired by Chinese metalwork traditions, this hands-on activity is a unique chance to explore one of Asia’s most beautiful decorative crafts.
Using bronze wires and vibrant colour sand, you'll be guided through the fundamentals of design, colour harmony, and layering. Your teacher will show you how to build intricate flower designs and turn them into permanent artworks. This session is both meditative and expressive, making it a wonderful experience whether you love jewellery-like art forms or just want to try something new.
You’ll take home your finished cloisonné piece, leaving with a new appreciation for this ancient craft and a beautiful coaster that is both functional and full of meaning.

She then explained how to fix the foil onto the coaster giving help where needed. She showed us how to mix the colours and how to put them into the coaster design. I-Hsuan was really kind and encouraging throughout the whole thing, helping us create something we were really proud of. We were also really late because of the marathon and she was very patient and understanding which we really appreciated! If you have never tried wire art or sand art, I would really encourage you to try it with I-Hsuan, she is a really great teacher and you will have a lot of fun doing it.

We were able to eat during our booking and finish off the coasters afterwards. My tip would be simple designs are easier and quicker, the gold wiring part took us the longest and Ihsuan was patient and talked us through it. She is a very intelligent and knowledgable person who’s studied art history. It was a delight to talk to her. I would recommend her class and would return again.
