Every session starts with a step-by-step demonstration of both hand-building (coiling) and wheel throwing.

Throwing Pots

Throwing Pots

You will spend 45 minutes throwing pots on the wheel. Our instructors will help you centre and shape your pots. There are no failures here -- everyone creates at least one thrown pot, most will create 3 or 4.

Creating a Coiled Pot

Creating a Coiled Pot

Next, you will move to the hand-building table where you will create a coiled pot. Creativity reigns here at the hand-building table. No two creations are ever the same!

Choose your Pots

Choose Your Pots

In Clay Together, everyone walks away with at least two pots -- one coiled and one thrown pot. Hard choices here -- which thrown pot will become your forever keep sake of the day?

This 90-minute family pottery class in Warwickshire is designed for adults and kids to get messy and make something together -- no experience required, just clean clothes you don't mind getting clay on.
Whether it's a weekend activity, a birthday outing, or just an excuse to do something different as a family, Clay Together is built for shared moments at the wheel and the worktable alike.
What to expect:
  • First half: Everyone takes a turn at the wheel, learning to centre and shape clay as it spins -- wobbly first attempts included.
  • Second half: Swap the wheel for hand-building, using a coiling technique to build a pot piece by piece, no electricity required.
  • Throughout: Our instructor moves between you, offering tips and steadying hands.
You'll leave with two handmade pieces: one thrown, one coiled, both entirely yours. It's a rare chance to slow down together, focus on something with your hands, and create something that didn't exist an hour and a half ago.
What you'll get
  • Aprons and all materials you'll need.
  • Your chosen pots once fired and glazed (4-6 weeks turnaround).
Knowledge required
Beginner-friendly.
What to bring

I spent years in the C-suite of software and biotech — successful on the outside, exhausted on the inside. I was stressed, anxious, and trapped on a corporate hamster wheel that just kept spinning faster. Then I tried pottery. My mind cleared, my anxiety melted away, and for the first time in years I had to let go of perfection — because clay simply won't allow it.
When The Old Bank building became available right in front of my home in Henley-in-Arden, I stepped inside out of curiosity and immediately knew it was meant to be a pottery studio. With 12 professional wheels and a dedicated hand-building area for up to 10, it is the perfect space to practice pottery in all of its forms. To ensure the highest level of instruction, I brought Selby Dickinson on board — a studio potter, expert thrower, and brilliant teacher with over 30 years of experience. Selby has great banter, can teach all age groups, is extremely supportive, and, most importantly, he is passionate about his craft.
What I love most is seeing clay do to others what it did to me — watching people fall in love with pottery at one of our beginner taster classes, discover the joy of refining their thrown creations in a Wheel Throwing 101 weekend intensive, and then develop their own unique practice in one of our pottery clubs. Students arrive stressed and leave transformed all while developing new friendships over a shared love of making. In short, I love every bit of it... except maybe all the cleaning!
