Hello, I’m Amanda, the founder of Chapel House Fragrances.
I started making candles after becoming fascinated by scent and how powerfully it can affect mood and memory. What began as curiosity quickly turned into a passion, experimenting, learning and refining until fragrance became a way to tell stories and create moments. There wasn’t one single “lightbulb” moment, but rather a growing feeling that this was something I truly loved and wanted to share.
The name Chapel House Fragrances comes from my home, a converted Baptist chapel. I’ve always loved the sense of history, calm and character that old buildings hold, and that’s very much at the heart of what I do. My candles are about slowing down, creating atmosphere, and honouring spaces that feel meaningful.
Teaching candle workshops has become one of the most rewarding parts of my business. I love creating a relaxed, welcoming space where people can switch off, learn something new, and leave feeling proud of what they’ve made. Watching someone light a candle they’ve poured themselves never gets old.
Something people often don’t realise is just how much science, testing and care goes into candle making, it’s not just about pouring wax and adding fragrance. Safety, balance and performance are always my top priorities.
Since starting the business, I’ve run workshops for individuals, private groups and team events, and my candles have found homes with customers who value craftsmanship, story and scent just as much as I do.
I was lucky enough to win a place at Theo Paphitis’ Small Business Sunday, which led to an incredible opportunity, a free trade stand that I took part in in February 2025. It was a real pinch-me moment and such a confidence boost for my small business.
Winning SBS and standing at that trade show felt like recognition of all the quiet work that happens behind the scenes, and it’s encouraged me to keep going, keep learning and keep growing.
If there’s one thing I hope people take from my work, it’s that small, thoughtful moments really do matter.
