Hello & Welcome to my Pottery Taster Session listing.
Please read carefully what your session will involve.
I have tried to put as much detail as I can, so you can easily decide if it’s for you or not.
The idea behind the Taster Session is to give you time to have a go on the Potters Wheel and try some Hand Building Techniques, so your time will be 1 hour for each activity.
Don't worry if this is your first time working with clay, as the class is designed with beginners in mind. Everything you need will be provided for you, and I will be on hand to give you tips and advice to help you get the most out of the session.
You'll leave the class with a sense of accomplishment and filled with new pottery skills that you can use for more projects in the future.
Depending on which option you choose, you will either take home what you make on the day (your 3 best creations) or leave your creations to have a 9 hour bisque firing followed by a 9 hour clear glaze firing.
Your Pottery will normally be ready for collection 4-8 weeks after your session.
This is very dependant on the weather conditions as the clay needs to dry naturally before it can be fired.
PLEASE NOTE:
Once you have been messaged to say your Pottery is ready for collection your Pottery can only be kept for two weeks as I do not have the storage space to hold your Pottery any longer.

  • 5/5 from Sheena Gaskell, attended Sep 2026: During the 3 hour session we were taken through the process of making 2 different slab tealights and shown how to make a pot on the wheel. Our teacher Joan demonstrated each stage, then watched over us as we pottered. It's certainly worth attending a small group as you learn so much from her guidance. We used a range of tools to create our 3 pots. Such a relaxing afternoon handling the clay and using the wheel. I topped my gift card up to pay for the session. It was worth every penny!
  • 5/5 from Fiona Sanderson, attended Sep 2026: Had wonderful taster session with Joan. So much fun. Extremely relaxed, friendly and informative. Learnt so much. Can't wait to do more. Thanks so much Joan and I can't wait to see my pot and tea lights when they're ready.
  • 5/5 from Ioannis Moschopoulos, attended Jun 2026: This was such a great afternoon. Neither my husband or I had ever done anything like this before. Joan was very welcoming and gave us expert advice and tuition. We learnt so much in a short space of time and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Time flew by! Can't wait to see the finished pieces in a few weeks. Would whole heartedly recommend this workshop with Joan. Thanks for a fantastic afternoon.

  • 5/5 from Hannah Brooks, attended Mar 2026: The best experience I've ever booked! Joan started by demonstrating how to make pottery by hand and the wheel. We then made 3 completely individual items each with Joan's help whenever we needed. All of our pottery turned out so well! The time absolutely flew. The atmosphere was really relaxed and fun despite us getting through so much. It was so lovely making memories with my mum and sister and I can't recommended Joan's pottery experience enough. Thank you x

  • 5/5 from Navy Barrigan-Cross, attended Mar 2026: We did the pottery workshop as a group and found it really enjoyable. The teacher was excellent in clearly explaining all the steps necessary for both the hand-building and on the wheel and then gave great hands on help when we were on the wheel so we could achieve a good outcome. The workshop was very welcoming and well organised and help was always on hand if we needed extra guidance. I was really pleased with what I was able to make on the day and felt that I really learned a lot about technique on the wheel. I would highly recommence this pottery taster session as it gives you a really good experience of both hand-building and throwing in a very supportive environment.

  • 5/5 from Kevin Forgacs-Pritchard, attended Feb 2025: I’ve been watching the pottery thrown down for years and have since started collecting various pieces of ceramics, most especially Raku. I’ve been wanting to have go and get a proper feel for throwing and this birthday gift from my husband was perfect. Joan is a great instructor. Plenty of guidance and plenty of opportunity to really get in and learn the basics of throwing. Joan sets you up to so that you can play with the clay before knuckling down to create what you’ll eventually take home. Thanks so much Joan. I really enjoyed my session today.

I started my clay journey with pottery painting, the closure of the shop led me to buying the equipment to carry on at home, I then progressed to weekly college classes and fell in love with the potters wheel. I wanted to know how to fire my kiln properly and how to make glazes, this then led me to uni as a mature student completing a ceramic design degree. I feel pottery has more errors than success and is a forever learning process. I love the variety of clay and the therapeutic value I get from it, as someone who loves to learn I have found something that continues to amaze me and I enjoy sharing the knowledge I have gained over the years
