Scratch Your Drawing Into the Plate

You will transfer your image onto a small Tetrapak plate and scratch the surface by hand using drypoint tools, line by line.

Ink and Wipe Your Plate

You will ink your plate by hand and wipe it back to reveal the drawing. With a bit of patience the marks will start to come back.

Print with a pasta maker press

Print with a Pasta Maker Press

You will print your plate through a pasta maker press and reveal your image on paper. This unusual final stage is what gives the workshop its character, turning a familiar tabletop object into a real printmaking press.

Leave with Two Original Prints

You will take home two original mini-prints made from your own plate, stored in a protective folder with acid-free sleeves.

Join me for a small, hands-on printmaking workshop using drypoint on recycled Tetra Pak and a pasta maker as a printing press.
Most sessions take place in my studio at Islington Mill in Salford, with selected dates at partner venues. The location is shown clearly for each session.
Over two hours, you’ll make your own printing plate and create two original mini-prints using printmaking ink and Fabriano paper. Everything is prepared before you arrive, and I’ll guide you through the process step by step.
You’ll begin with a simple drawing, then transfer it onto your Tetra Pak plate and scratch the lines into the surface using drypoint tools. From there, you’ll ink the plate, carefully wipe it back, and finally run it through a pasta maker press to reveal your print.
No previous printmaking experience is needed. If you’d rather not draw from scratch, there will be a selection of simple reference images you can use as a starting point.
The process is direct, tactile and slightly unpredictable. You ink the plate, wipe it back, put it through the press, and only then see exactly what you’ve made. Each impression has its own character.
  • Make one drypoint plate and two original mini-prints
  • Work with recycled Tetra Pak
  • Print using a pasta maker press
  • Use a prepared workstation with all materials provided
  • Choose from reference images if you prefer not to draw freehand
  • Learn how to dry, sign and care for your prints afterwards
Sessions are kept small, with close guidance throughout, so the two hours can stay focused on making rather than preparation.
You’ll leave with your plate and two original prints, protected for the journey home, plus the knowledge to continue experimenting with the process yourself.

  • 5/5 from Angela Fox, attended Sep 2026: A great workshop. I actually had a rare Saturday off work and wanted to treat myself to a workshop. I wasn't sure if I would learn anything new skills but I was wrong. It taught me new skills which I am inspired to take further within my own art practice. A friendly and approachable tutor/guide. I learned that you can print using everyday materials without the cost of expensive printing presses and plates. Thank you.
