It's around 20 minutes walk from Manchester Piccadilly, 10 minutes by bus, or 5 minutes by taxi. If you've been to a gig at the Apollo, or played football at the 5-a-side pitches nearby, you might know that parking in the area is tricky at all times! There is a 24hr staffed car park on site (it's charged at a flat rate of £5 and is cash only) as well as a single yellow lines on Higher Ardwick, and unrestricted parking on Temperance Street and Great Western Street. Starling Bike stations are also located right outside on Chancellor Lane.

- 5/5 from Pam Lee, attended Jan 2026: I received my gift card as a Christmas present from my family who assured me I would enjoy it even though I am 75 and have never worked with clay before. Happy to say they were absolutely correct! The three hour session consisted of two parts the first for me was the Wheale which was a dream come true and I did manage to have one complete dish at the end of that session. I then moved onto hand clay work which I found was more my thing and I made a jug and a soap dish in the time. I was amazed and everyone I think they were about 12 of us altogether, two groups of six, had a truly wonderful evening. Georgie and her co-teacher were so helpful and friendly and it felt like a social evening. There were snacks and drinks and the atmosphere was lovely with good music and it was clean in fact the studio well I just felt I was an artist for an evening, which was great. I have three pieces being fired and glazed to the colours I requested there was a choice and I really am looking forward to returning to collect these and to see Georgie again and to thank her once more and her coworker whose name I’m annoyed with myself I can’t remember but she was just as lovely they were both just great.

My name is Georgie Dixon, I'm a ceramics artist based in Manchester and I've taught pottery wheel classes and hand-building workshops for over 10 years in Brighton, Melbourne, Australia and Manchester. I have recently opened Familia Studios, a pottery school in Ardwick, Manchester. We host 2 hour wheel intro classes, 6-week course, a Friday night Ceramics Social and seasonal one-off workshops centred around specific themes. The friendly space at Familia Studios is big, open and thoughtfully designed - perfect for a party or special day out.
