Looking for a short but satisfying silver clay experience? This 2½-hour workshop in Hull is perfect if you want to learn jewellery-making without the full-day commitment. You'll create a textured charm, pendant, or a small pair of earrings – all in one afternoon – and take home a beautiful, finished piece you've crafted yourself.
Silver clay might sound technical, but don't worry: you'll be guided step by step through the entire process, and there's no experience needed. Whether you're a complete beginner or you've always been curious about the craft, you'll feel supported and at ease the whole way through. We'll cover everything from preparing and shaping your clay to adding textures and details, joining components, and even firing your work.
In this workshop, you'll:
  • Discover what silver clay is and the craft's rich history
  • Learn how to prepare and handle your materials
  • Shape, cut, and texture your clay into something uniquely yours
  • Join silver clay pieces together and refine them
  • Fire your creation (torch firing for over 16s only)
  • Polish, finish, and add patina for intricate details
  • Attach a bail to your pendant or ear hooks to your earrings

The studio was set up by award-winning metal clay artist, Richard Allen, and his fellow tutor, Lesley Willard, as the base for their award-winning metal clay company. Their silver clay taster and themed workshops cater to all skill levels, from the absolute beginner to the more advanced. From a personalised one-to-one session or time with some friends up to a team-building corporate experience, Metal Clay Academy will bring you an amazing jewellery-making experience.
What's more, Metal Clay Academy has recently been awarded the highly respected NAJ Endorsed status by the National Association of Jewellers for their Metal Clay Launchpad Courses. This is in recognition of NAJ trusted training and education.
