One-to-one Sewing Workshop

Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 3/5 from Huong Lan Lee, attended Nov 2025: The teacher was nice. I was impressed that she arrived on the dot when it was about to start. I learnt the very basics of sewing. And she told how to hem my dress. 1 hour wasn't long enough to actually hem the dress. She helped cut my dress to length and there wasn't time to complete the rest which was a bit disappointing. I think the process was a bit slow unfortunately otherwise we would've been able to complete the hemming of the dress. She was rummaging through her bag a few times and sometimes couldn't find the tools needed. I definitely recommend being more prepared next time with all the equipment on hand! A handy tip to save time. We were interrupted by a customer for a few minutes which was really bad because it was eating into my time to learn which I paid for. I personally would've politely suggested to the customer to ask another colleague to help her out. Overall not too bad experience. I liked the teacher but a few things could be improved most certainly!
  • 5/5 from Lauren, attended Sep 2025: My teacher was very friendly and helpful- I could ask all my questions and not feel silly. Her instructions were clear and I had time to practise as well. I left feeling confident about starting to use my sewing machine and am excited about starting my first project.

  • 5/5 from Louise Wilson, attended Dec 2024: we must say a big thank you to SOPHIE, our teacher today. Sophie was fantastic at finding out what we knew and what my son needed to learn. she had great teaching aids, loads to show us and buckets of patience. We would love to see her again. Thank you. the wilsons
  • 5/5 from Catriona, attended Aug 2024: I had bought a new sewing machine and wasn't getting on very well with it. The session was great and I had the chance to talk through the basics of the whole machine and check my understanding of the controls. It was value for money and I would highly recommend. Venue was fine apart from customers letting their kids run around the shop! A sign to other customers saying that there was a teaching session happening might help awkward interruptions.
  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Jun 2024: I was gifted a 1-2-1 sewing session for my birthday, I have a sewing machine but I didn't know how to use it. Sophie, my tracher, was amazing, she was ready, waiting for me with a sewing machine and materials, so no time was wasted setting up. She listen to what I was looking for with the session and adjusted to my requirements, she was extremely flexible and pleasant. Very knowledgeable and advised of what equipment is essential and what can wait untill I improve. All I can say is a massive thank you to Sophie for an amazing experience. I will definitely do it again and I would definitely recommend

  • 5/5 from Ky Bailey, attended Feb 2024: Sophie was the teacher. Very nice lady, really clear with instructions and patient. Would have preferred a more secluded venue as we were on the shop floor which was distracting and it was a little bit annoying as the machine kept jamming. Overall though it was good value for money and would definitely recommend.

  • 5/5 from Nicola Manuel, attended Apr 2023: Sophie was friendly and put me at ease. She apologised for the training space and lack of set up like some of the other sites, also for being interrupted (it was clear there was a lack of support on the floor for customers to go to so would ask if the staff member they can see). She was clear on the set up of the machine, what could be used and differences to be aware of with material or thread and stitches. I felt supported when using the machine and on working through issues.

Charlotte had actually helped me choose the sewing machine initially when i'd come into the store, so I was really pleased to learn she ran workshops. As expected, Charlotte was brilliant with my daughter and made the workshop fun. She was really informative and guided my daughter through the set up, until she felt confident doing it by herself, and then spent time letting her use the machine with some practice fabric. My daughter left feeling really confident, came straight home and hasn't stopped sewing since! I wouldn't hesitate to book another workshop with Charlotte in the future!
  • 5/5 from Tania Beretta, attended Apr 2022: Charlotte was very informative and helpful. I learned a lot and will definitely book another session.
  • 5/5 from Nicole Rich, attended Jan 2022: Farnborough is very well organised but could do with more space Charlotte was really good and more than happy to assist with any questions or change of direction on what we were talking about. Katie reassured me the whole time and we had a laugh. I would definitely recommend one of these sessions and once I have been and had a play, I will be booking another one to learn more skills. Thank you so much I feel liberated and confident to use my sewing machine now.
  • 5/5 from Sashi Kissun-Gray, attended Jan 2022: I booked the one to one sewing workshop for my 12 year old daughter. We bought her a sewing machine for Christmas. She wanted to learn how to thread the machine and how to sew materials together. She was taught how to do this by her tutor Sophia, who was very good with her and she had excellent knowledge of how the machine works. My daughter really enjoyed the lesson and feels confident to sew on her own. I would recommend the workshop, as it was organised and they provided a great service. Mrs. K-Gray
