One-to-one Sewing Workshop

Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Niki Stilliard, attended Jul 2024: One to one workshop on using my new sewing machine. I haven't used a sewing machine in years and after buying one from hobbycraft, I felt I needed a refresher and a run through of what this machine can do and how to do it. Everything was explained at the right level for me, more as a reminder. To explain the different stitches it can do, a cloth was given to me, with lines to follow, so I could try out the stitch lengths, types of stitches and the improvements that my new machine can do. Also some useful tips on what stitches to use for stretchy fabrics, different types of feet you can buy to make sewing so much simpler. It was exactly what I needed and more. The only downside was, that there were only 2 staff in the store, one on the cash register and the one doing my workshop. Several times we were interrupted by customers wanting to know where things were, she asked them to see the lady on the register, but there was a long queue and customers didn't want to wait in a queue to find the location of an item, then queue again to pay. Both women were very calm and helpful considering how busy they were.

  • 3/5 from Debbie Mann, attended Jan 2024: More experieced teacher and a machine that works better would be fair. Nice lad but not what I had in mind. Not a great advert for a Hobbiecraft machine. I will not be purchasing one. I completed about 100 stitches in all.
  • 3/5 from Sarah Brewster, attended Dec 2023: Lovely, personable member of staff. Would rather have used exact model that I own as it was in store and I had told the store what it was.

  • 5/5 from Jenny, attended Oct 2023: Sara was lovely. She was very friendly. We used the sewing machine I have, which I thought was very helpful. I didn't know anything about sewing machines. Sara was very clear with her instructions with how to set the machine up. We practised using different stitches, which was really good. I wanted some instruction on how to shorten trouseres/Jeans, so Sara showed me that. I really enjoyed the session and will definitely do some more workshops. Sara was excellent and very patient teacher.
  • 5/5 from Moon, attended Sep 2023: I absolutely loved the one-on-one sewing workshop with Penny. She was incredibly patient, friendly, and generous with her time. I have to admit that I am quite clumsy when it comes to sewing, and I had very little knowledge about working with a sewing machine. However, in just one short hour, Penny managed to teach me how to use the sewing machine, and it's truly remarkable. I can hardly believe it! I also want to express my deep gratitude to my colleague Anne for introducing me to the workshops available at Hobby Craft. Thanks to her, I had the opportunity to learn something new. It's wonderful to have such supportive and helpful colleagues like Penny and Anne. Their guidance and encouragement have been invaluable, and I couldn't be more thankful.
  • 5/5 from Rebecca Stack, attended Aug 2023: The workshop was great. The teacher was fantastic; very informative and really boosted by daughters confidence with her sewing machine.
  • 5/5 from Kate Blake, attended Aug 2023: I really like Louise’s relaxed and knowledgeable approach. She was very easy to work with and very obliging. I was dismayed initially by the very dirty table which she offered to clean and then covered with a cloth. I thoroughly enjoyed and achieved my aims. Thank you Louise! Hobbycraft- you need to have a separate table for sewing rather than a paint stained one!

  • 4/5 from Gill Ireson, attended Mar 2023: Louise was a brilliant teacher. Her explaining of pattern reading was good. I really enjoyed my first lesson, the only thing I would say is that one hour isn't long enough and I felt it was rushed towards the end. Thank you Louise.

The tutor was really good at passing on her knowledge and demonstrating things, nothing was too much trouble and she was able to answer all the questions I had. I got much more from it than I was expecting, it was so valuable to be able to have a go with an expert guiding. It is such good value for money and was interesting, informative and good fun.

  • 5/5 from Rachel Wallace, attended Mar 2022: Louise was fantastic. Didn’t rush me, gave clear instructions and made me feel at ease. Materials provided were adequate for the things I had asked to cover. As a complete novice I asked to learn how to achieve button holes, zips and darts and now have the confidence I can achieve these things. Louise offered further assistance in store should I have further questions and informed me of other workshops that were running if I was interested. She will now become my sewing guru. I can’t recommend the whole experience enough.
