Our one-off hand-building workshops run every couple of months. We pick a new fun and experimental project theme each time, often with guest artists who come to share their skills and specialist techniques.
Our next hand-building workshop theme will be:
Floral Inlay Mugs with Florrie!
Saturday 16th May, 1pm - 3pm
About this workshop:
Work with a selection of bright-coloured clays to make your own floral mug. You will be guided by local ceramic artist Florrie Andrews, who will be sharing her passion for using the inlay technique. You'll start by creating your completely unique floral patterns onto a slab of white clay—no two designs will be the same. Florrie will then guide you through the process of cutting and assembling your mug with a handle using the slab building method.
You'll need to leave your piece with us at the end of the workshop to be glazed in a clear gloss glaze and then fired in our kilns up to 1200°C. We use real clay (not the air-dried stuff) and the firing process means your pieces will be completely usable for hot drinks.
The firing process takes 3-4 weeks, so you'll need to come back and collect your item, or we can arrange postage for £5 on the day of your workshop.
What you'll get
One handmade mug per person, decorated with brightly coloured floral patterns, needs to be collected from the studio 3-4 weeks after the workshop.
Knowledge required
Suitable for complete beginners or those who have worked with clay before and want to try a new technique.
What to bring
Wear clothes that can be easily wiped down.
Suitable for

Suitable for adults, and kids (minimum 12 years old).

An adult must accompany any attending kids, and must pay for a separate ticket.
