Sunday Poetry Club

A monthly club in Manchester for people who love poetry!

10 hours total (over 5 dates) Class size 1 to 20 guests       £6

Join every Sunday for a community poetry session in Manchester. The poetry world is full of workshops for writing and events, but not as much in the way of community spaces to connect.
Sunday Poetry Club is a response to this: a facilitated, real-world, informal space to come together, share poetry, and grow as a community. Don't worry if you're new to poetry -- this two-hour session is designed for everyone, and a chance to meet like-minded people, write, and make some friends.
What to expect:
  • In the first 45 minutes, we'll talk about all the lovely things people have brought and what we thought about them or how they impacted us, with the option to deep dive into individual poems and themes.
  • In the next part, you'll have the chance to share what's going on in your writing life, from recent wins and workshop reflections to questions, ideas, events, or just general poetry chat. You’re also welcome to read one short piece!
  • In the last 30 minutes, you'll revisit standout poems and write your own response, or work on whatever inspires you.
  • You can grab a soft drink or beer from the bar and enjoy becoming part of a growing community of poetry pals.
Please bring a poem that has resonated with you! Everyone is encouraged to bring collections, essays, pamphlets, magazines, and other poetry lit they’ve enjoyed and would like to talk about or recommend. After 4 pm, everyone’s welcome to stay and write or socialise if they’d like.
I can’t wait to meet you and grow this community in Manchester together!
As a working-class human, I've come up against pay barriers all my life -- if the monthly cost of these sessions presents a barrier for you, please reach out.
What you'll get
Two hours facilitated poetry community time, great for wholesome vibes, inspiration, learning, networking, and community building, and generally getting to spend more time in the poetry world.
Knowledge required
No experience necessary, just a love of poetry.
What to bring
  • A poem to share.
  • Something to write with, and anything else you've found interesting or inspiring.
Session repeats

After the first session, the next session is: monthly on a Sunday.

Hi, I'm Rachael and I believe in the importance of creating space for artistic pursuit, even when modern busy life makes it really super hard to do so. Poetry and its pursuit have and continue to bring me personal insight, peace, and profound joy, and I want to help everyone find that space and connect with the things they want and need to explore.
I'm a Manchester poet and creative human; founder of The Space Poetic, a hybrid event bringing spoken and written poetry together in a monthly poetry gallery and open mic in Manchester's Northern Quarter; a current MFA student at The Manchester Writing School; poetry workshop and events facilitator; a 2024 Comino Poet in Residence; writer of ‘Letter as a jellyfish to all my ex’s, all of you’ which was awarded a runner up prize in Wirral Poetry Festivals’ 2024 Competition; writer at Poet Notes on Substack... oh and some of my poems have appeared in several small anthologies and been both long and shortlisted in some well known competitions including The Fish, The Plough, and Bridport Poetry Prizes. Recently my piece 'Venn diagram featuring working class wages and lemons' appeared on Ink Sweat and Tears.
Anything else? Oh yeah, when I'm not busy wording I'm probably making friends with street cats, lolling around in sunny parks, or out rock climbing, hiking, and exploring.
Why come to my workshops and events? Because they're a safe and welcoming space for anyone and everyone no matter your circumstances or previous experience to come and spend some time enjoying being creative :)
I can't wait to write with you friends!
