Mastering the Seasonal Strokes
No experience? No problem. We’ll break down the specific brush techniques needed to capture the elegance of the Camellia, practising each stroke until you feel confident.
Bringing Your Floral Painting to Life
Putting it all together! You'll apply your new skills to compose and paint your own authentic sumi-e masterpiece on rice paper to take home and frame.

Kapok House Sumi-e brings the serene beauty of Japanese ink painting to Altrincham and Didsbury, where delicate rice paper meets mindful brushstrokes that capture nature's quiet moments. Rooted in Zen philosophy, each stroke reflects your inner calm as you explore bamboo's gentle sway or lotus blossoms unfolding. Our beginner-friendly workshops welcome all ages and skill levels, including special sessions for children ages 7+ who love discovering ink's magic. You'll hold the Four Treasures (brush, ink, paper, and inkstone), learn fluid pressure and dilution, then lose yourself painting simple leaves to flowing forms in our peaceful studios.
