Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

Instead we saw reverse 4 sign and didn’t work. Very frustrating. Other than that, we manage to fix other things, I hope.

  • 5/5 from Louise Richardson, attended Nov 2024: Thank you Linda, at the Team Valley. You were so lovely with my daughter and very patient. Would recommend.
  • 5/5 from Gabrielle Marshall, attended Oct 2024: I've never used a sewing machine before so wanted to be shown the ropes before diving in. Linda was wonderful from the off, showing me the basics of threading the machine and sewing straight and zig zag lines. She allowed me to take some practice bits home with me after deciding to buy a sewing machine after what I'd learnt. Linda was very patient with me and made sure I understood as we went on.
  • 3/5 from Joan Martin, attended Oct 2024: I recently bought a singer sewing machine 4423 from yourselves. I have used a machine in the past but my daughter hasn't. Therefore i decided to book a class for us both. There were a few things in particular that I wished to know about. These being the needle threader, the 1 step buttonhole and how to sew with a stretch stitch. Initially there was a Hobbycraft machine set up but the teacher kindly offered to use the model which I had bought. Unfortunately she did not have the knowledge of this particular machine and could not demonstrate the needle threader and then there was difficulty in placing the bobbin and removing the bobbin cover. It took a long time to thread the needle manually which I can sympathize with, this, being the reason i wanted to know how to use the needle threader. She couldn't attach the buttonhole foot and when one was eventually done it was only half done as the thread kept snapping. I tried to google some help for her.The stretch stitch was demonstrated on non stretch cotton. I I felt for the teacher, she was a lovely person, very friendly and did show my daughter how to thread the upper part of the machine and sew straight and zigzag stitch. She was very apologetic. The lesson lasted 70 mins but there was at the least half of that time, if not more trying to find things out. I did not really learn the things I wanted to know about or what my machine was fully capable of. Very disappointing and not worth what I paid. Would have given 2 stars but feel badly for the teacher who just didn't know the model of this machine.
  • 5/5 from Ann-Marie Thomas, attended Aug 2024: I’m so pleased I booked a one to one as I learnt so much as well as fixing a few issues I was having with my machine. I would definitely book another session in the future. The time flew by and I really enjoyed it. My tutor was lovely and very knowledgeable about the machine.
  • 4/5 from Yancy Chan, attended Aug 2024: Very patient and thoughtful teacher. I got some answers for my questions but it is not an advanced sewing workshop, just beginners. Like you wont be able to learn how to sew different patterns or hems eg lettuce hem.
  • 5/5 from Ellie, attended May 2024: I came in knowing nothing about sewing machines and Andrea made me feel so welcome and calm, she was a gem. I walked away with a new skill I've wanted for ages and a new need for a sewing machine haha thank you so much Andrea!!
  • 4/5 from Maureen Godbold, attended Mar 2024: Bought sewing machine from hobbycraft wanted to get to know the machine. The member of staff was good and knew a lot in general about sewing machines, although not my machine in particular. But I learned everything I wanted to know do worth the money

  • 5/5 from Heather Steel, attended Aug 2022: Angela was a lovely teacher, my step daughter enjoyed the session very much, would recommend
  • 5/5 from Barbara Wilson, attended Jul 2022: Teacher was very approachable & easy to talk to, accepting my nervous sewing. I had asked to be shown how to sew stretchy material, which I was, what I appreciated was that the teacher freely told me that she had never sewn with stretchy material herself, so we were learning together. Although I could have been annoyed about being shown a method which the tutor was not proficient in, in fact it went the other way & made me more relaxed. Not only was I shown the best method, but I was also shown some other techniques such as French seams & seams using hidden binding, things which I would never have tried myself. All in all it was a great lesson, well worth the cost and I would be quite happy to return for another lesson in some other technique.
  • 5/5 from Nancy 8, attended Jun 2022: Nancy had a great time at her sewing class! Linda the teacher made adjustments as necessary because Nancy is only 8! She really enjoyed it, she was so keen and Linda was amazing with her. She praised her and encouraged her! Together they made a cushion cover and a hair scrunchie. I thought the class was great value for money! Thanks again Linda
  • 5/5 from Helen McKenry, attended May 2022: Fantastic one to one session and was tailored to my needs. The session was well paced and was great to have constructive advice throughout. I have left the session feeling so much more confident and feel I can use my new knowledge going forward with projects. The materials provided were great and I was not expecting to be given practice guided patterns to try at home which were great and boosted my confidence after trying one during our session. Thank you so much for your patience and your time today I was extremely impressed and very grateful.
  • 5/5 from Kirsty Ferry, attended Apr 2022: I had a brilliant workshop with Dee at the Team Valley branch. It turned out my machine was faulty so I got a replacement as well. She showed me how to do the tasks I'd asked to learn and a little more besides. She also gave me an extra half hour as by the time we'd established my machine was faulty it had taken up a good chunk of time. Highly recommended and thank you so much!
  • 5/5 from Heather Moran, attended Apr 2022: Linda was very kind and more than happy to show us how to do things that we'd asked about.

  • 5/5 from Abigail Merrett, attended Jan 2022: Linda was great, told me what I needed to know and showed me on the machine. Let me have a go too - just what I needed and feel confident to use my machine now. Thank you so much
