Just a five-minute walk from Ancoats, discover pottery at the New Dawn Pottery studio in Manchester.
Perfect for complete beginners, this relaxed 2-hour wheel throwing class is the ideal choice if you've always wanted to learn to throw a pot on the wheel in a fun, supportive environment.
Experience the magic of turning a lump of clay into your own handmade piece of art. You'll throw under the guidance of one of our friendly local teachers, who has plenty of tips to share, and you'll come away with the foundational skills for making beautiful pots on the wheel.
Beyond the new skill, there's the calm — wheel throwing is genuinely meditative, and two hours of it is a proper reset. Step into this warm and welcoming studio and leave with your own handmade pottery.
There's space for 8 people per class, so everyone gets their own wheel and individual attention. It's ideal for date nights, birthdays, friends, or coming on your own to try something new in Manchester.
At the end of the session, choose your favourite pieces to be glazed and fired in our kiln for £7.50 each, with a wide range of glaze colours to pick from. Finished ceramics are food-safe and usually ready to collect within 4-6 weeks. We can post them to you if you can't get back to the studio.
Please note
  • Please arrive on time — if you're late you may miss the demo.
  • No liability is accepted for misuse of the studio space.
What you'll get
  • Unlimited clay during the class, so you can throw as many pieces as you like.
  • Your own pottery wheel, in a class of no more than 8.
  • All tools and aprons.
  • Two hours of guidance from a friendly local teacher.
  • Optional glazing and firing at £7.50 per piece, paid to your tutor at the end of class. Finished pieces are food-safe and ready in 4-6 weeks, with postage available.

New Dawn Pottery represents a new beginning.
Life is an intense journey that keeps taking me to paths that I never thought I would walk. I have found great healing and passion in this beautiful art form. Spending my days making functional pieces of ceramics from a ball clay in my studio gives me so much joy and fascinates me. It’s been a very meditative journey that allows me to explore and express myself as an artist and who I am as a person.
