info Tips on taking photos

Taking great photos will help you deliver the best possible guest experience and also will encourage guests to share your photos and thus drive word of mouth for you. Here are some tips:

Capture a variety of guest combinations
  • Try to take photos front-on, with the guest's face, rather than from the back. Preferably when they're smiling or laughing and looking like they're enjoying themselves!
  • Take photos of individual guests as well as guests who belong to the same booking (friends, couples, etc)
  • Consider taking a group shot at the end of all participants
  • If it feels appropriate, you can also take a selfie with them
  • Take a few photos in quick succession so that you can just keep the best ones, to avoid shots of blinking and other awkwardness
Show the joyful journey from raw materials to finished product
  • Consider taking a shot of the raw materials provided at the start of the session. This way guests can better appreciate how they transformed these into a work of art later!
  • Take 'action' shots which show the guest immersed in the activity, in the process of making
  • Take 'finished product' shots where the guest proudly shows their work
  • Taking some social moments where guests are enjoying talking to or interacting with each other can also be great
  • Try to minimise 'clutter' in the shot - avoid taking unnecessary stuff in the background
Make your venue photogenic
  • You might want to decorate a specific area of your venue, to use for photos (e.g. for the 'finished product' stage) - make it Instagrammable and guests will be more likely to share it
  • Include some props to make the photos more personalised and immersive. E.g. a board where you can write the guest's name or the occasion they're celebrating, offering guests relevant things to wear (apron, chef's hat, traditional costumes, etc), containers that proudly show the variety of materials available in a visually appealing manner, etc
  • Consider the amount of lighting in your venue - you might want to brighten/dim it to get the right vibe and nice photos
And be polite
  • Please let guests know that you'll be taking photos and that they'll be available later for them to enjoy, and ask them to inform you if they prefer not to be photographed
  • Read the room - don't overdo your photography if it's making guests feel uncomfortable. Some guests may want more photos than others
