Join us for this brand new 6-week course to begin your natural dyeing journey and learn to make natural colour at home.
Taking colour from the natural world is an ancient and simple technology that is worth revisiting and reconnecting with whilst being a lovely way to keep in touch with the seasons.
This 6-week course will act as an introduction to making natural colours on textiles at home; foraging for your own dyestuffs, traditional and less traditional techniques of making colours and how to transfer them to fibres.
You’ll learn how to make your own dyes and colours, to prepare your fabrics and to make sure you create long-lasting colours. We’ll explore how to make a rainbow of colours all from one plant and how to use and make your own mordants (fixatives).
Designed and led by South London-based textile artist and maker Rachael Pilston, this course will be an exploration of colour from plants and getting started at home, suitable for beginners and those with a dye practise already.

This class series runs over 6 consecutive sessions, at the same time every week.
