Drypoint Etching Print Making Workshop

Design, crave and print unique designs at this introduction to drypoint etching workshop in Manchester. Guided by the passionate teachers from Little Lion Studio, you'll learn the basics of this fun, hands-on craft.

Drypoint is an intaglio print making technique similar to engraving whereby a design is scratched into a perspex or metal plate. These scratches create a burr, which holds ink. Damp paper is then pressed deep into these lines, transferring the design to the paper.

It is an easy technique for complete beginners to grasp, produces beautiful soft, velvety lines and can be combined with other print making techniques to add colour. No experience in painting or drawing is necessary to enjoy this fascinating and relaxing workshop. As far as the design is concerned, any line drawing will work well -- it's a fantastic technique for making expressive marks!

For our purposes, we will be using perspex. The advantage of this is that you can bring a design with you and place the perspex over the top and draw the image.

At the end of the workshop, return home with your completed designs and the confidence to continue your DIY print making journey!
