Wheel Throwing Pottery Course

A multi-week course in wheel throwing for complete beginners or intermediate makers

6 x 2.5 hours Class size 1 to 5 guests       £220 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Join our next wheel throwing pottery course, running for 6 consecutive weeks. Bookings are currently open for:
Tuesday 28th July - Tuesday 1st September
Wednesday 29th July - Wednesday 2nd September
Tuesday 15th September - Tuesday 20th October
Wednesday 16th September - Wednesday 21st October
During the course you'll get to grips with the entire process of creating pottery on the wheel. Starting with the fundamentals of centering the clay, pulling up walls and experimenting with different shapes and forms, to trimming, adding handles and glazing your pieces in the latter weeks.
Complete beginners are welcome, as are intermediate level throwers who'd like to hone their skills and enjoy the group environment.
Our courses are adaptable and flexible, but we will roughly follow a schedule of:
Week 1: Throwing basics - centering and cylinders
Week 2: Throwing development - like last week but with more experimentation
Week 3: Finishing the previous weeks' pieces - trimming, adding handles and pre-fire decoration
Week 3: Throwing development - bigger bowls or a work towards your personal project/goal
Week 5: Finishing all pieces ready for glazing next week - trimming, adding handles & pre-fire decoration
Week 6: Glazing
All use of clay, tools, equipment and firing is included in your booking price. It's difficult to say exactly how many pieces can be made within the course, but most students have 5-10 pieces to come back and pick up, 2 weeks after the course ends.
Various 4, 5, and 6 week courses run throughout the year, aligning roughly with school terms. Your booking is made for the same time-slot, for 5 consecutive weeks. If you miss a session you can make up the hours by coming into the studio for extra practise time (although this would be limited to our studio access hours on a Tuesday and Wednesday daytimes, or Thursday afternoons/evenings.

FAQ

What if I miss a class?
If you miss one of your course sessions we can offer you practise time in the studio, on on a Tuesday or Wednesday daytime, or Thursday afternoon/evening. As making pottery is a very time sensitive, step-by-step process, when you miss a session, it can have a knock on effect on the remaining weeks. This is something to be aware of at this stage, we can better inform you about your options once you have started and once we know which particular week you might miss.
