Looking to get started with a sewing machine but feeling a bit unsure where to begin? Join this beginner-friendly sewing class in London and discover the essential foundations of garment construction in a supportive studio environment.
Guided by the experienced fashion educators at Weft Studio, you'll get comfortable with the sewing machine, basic stitching techniques, and the professional tools used in real fashion studios.
Throughout the session, you'll learn how to:
  • Set up a sewing machine – Master the basics of threading and tension.
  • Understand basic seam types – Learn which stitches work best for different garments.
  • Practise simple construction techniques – Get hands-on with the methods used to build clothing.
As you work with different fabrics, you'll build the practical skills needed to tackle your own projects at home. This workshop is designed for those with little to no experience, providing a low-pressure space to ask questions and gain confidence.
By the end of the class, you'll have finished a simple sewn item and gained a solid set of skills to kickstart your new creative obsession.

Weft Studio is a collective of 4 fashion educators and designers specialising in garment construction, tailoring, and creative design development.
With experience teaching fashion design from Level 3 through to undergraduate study, we guide students through industry-informed processes that combine technical precision with creative experimentation.
Our workshops introduce participants to professional fashion techniques used in studios and ateliers, including draping, pattern cutting, and tailoring construction. At Weft Studio, we are passionate about helping learners develop confidence in garment making while also understanding the design thinking behind fashion production.
Our sessions are designed for both beginners and emerging designers who want to expand their technical skillset in a supportive and collaborative studio environment.
