Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Jul 2024: Great session learning how to use my 19S hobbycraft sewing machine. Patient, friendly tutor who was knowledgeable and able to show me tips and advice. Also showed me where I had been going wrong! Would highly recommend, specially if you are a novice sewing machine user. Feedback for hobbycraft: The user manual provided does not correlate with the machine it's provided with. The 19S sewing machine only has two setting dials whereas the manual shows and explains three. Not helpful and very confusing for the user
  • 5/5 from Mary Green, attended Jan 2024: Excellent l enjoyed learning about my new machine, came away knowing it was twenty pounds well spent Thanks
  • 5/5 from Emma Wink, attended Nov 2023: My teacher Paula was fantastic, very patient with me and made sure I could do a task/understood before progressing on to a more difficult task. She was extremely friendly and highly knowledgeable it made my experience so much more enjoyable. It was great that we used the machine that I had and there was plenty of extra materials if needed. I thought it was a nice extra that you are given practice cloths for when you are at home. All in all a very informative and enjoyable lesson!
  • 4/5 from Gaye Sorah, attended Nov 2023: Enjoyed the lesson. Was shown how to put in a zip. It is better to bring fabric where the right side is distinguishable from the wrong and to have a seam ironed.
  • 5/5 from Becky Brown, attended Oct 2023: I had a really fantastic lesson with Lucinda. I needed to know the very basics, how to set up and use my machine. I've not been near a sewing machine for a long time. She really put me at ease, demonstrated and explained really clearly what I needed to do before letting me try for myself. Explained how the machine works, what the functions are. What to do when the tension is quite right etc. It was really comprehensive. I had a go at stitching, back stitch and she explained/demonstrated how to pivot. I had no questions at the end because she had covered everything. Now all I have to do is practice at home and get sewing!
  • 5/5 from Rebecca Whiley, attended Jul 2023: Lucinda was a great teacher for the class and learning how to use the sewing machine I have just purchased. Had a couple of hiccups with the machine but after changing to another one was easy to use and have learnt several new skills already. Shall definitely speak to her again if have any more problems or need help with machine. Rebecca.

  • 5/5 from Emily Balsdon, attended Apr 2023: My teacher was so kind and friendly, I can't remember her name but I'd like to say a big thank you! I went home and did some more troubleshooting and from her guidance and encouragement I managed to get my sewing machine working and have been practicing different stitches. I would highly recommend this service if like me you are a complete beginner.
  • 5/5 from Anna Vagilidad, attended Mar 2023: Paula was amazing to someone who doesn't know anything about using a sewing machine. She was very patient and informative. I learned a lot today about bobbins, tension, and stitch length. I also learned about the different stitches that I can use from the sewing machine that we used which I am planning to purchase in couple of days. The cost for one to one teaching was affordable and just right in the pocket. The learning area was fine, no issue with me and I was shown how to start using the sewing machine. I only need to practise to be confident and competent in using a sewing machine. More power to Paula, ClassBento and Hobbycraft.
  • 5/5 from Rosetta Brooker, attended Mar 2023: Lucinda is an excellent teacher. She clearly explained how to load a bobbin, the threads and how to thread the needle. We leant about tension in the thread causing problems and how to sort this out. All in all a brilliant lesson.
  • 5/5 from Jayne Smith, attended Feb 2023: Absolutely amazing workshop, Paula is wonderfully talented. Needed a refresh of knowledge and she was very thorough with everything and have learnt so much! Couldn’t recommend this enough. Thank you Paula!
  • 5/5 from Felinda Hertadi, attended Jan 2023: I learn a lot in just an hour from Paula, she is very good in showing step by step from how to use the machine: setting the length and the strength of the stitch, choosing the patterns from the machine, making patterns, making proper edging, sewing a zipper, making button hole, and she showed me two different cushion designs as an idea to start my project. At the end of class she gave me lines to practice with the machine, before I start my project. It is absolutely a nice class to join.
  • 5/5 from Chloe Marr, attended Nov 2022: The teacher was brilliant and I had a lovely time. Great at answering all of my questions and full of knowledge.
  • 5/5 from Diane Lee, attended Sep 2022: Very friendly and patient teacher, had to learn the sewing basics, came away feeling confident.

  • 5/5 from Peta Cunnane, attended Sep 2021: Spent a very enjoyable and informative time learning how to use my new sewing machine. The lady was very patient and was happy to demonstrate how to do things a number of times until I could do things. Would definitely recommend signing up for Hobbycraft tuition sessions
  • 5/5 from Lindsay Green, attended Sep 2021: The venue was okay but could have been improved if it was away from other customers who were walking around our table. Paula the teacher was amazing. She had already researched the machine I have and had one ready to use complete with full instruction manual. Paula had such a vast amount of knowledge and experience about sewing and she was very patient and explained things very well. The materials provided were great. My sewing knowledge is basic and I learnt how to sew a blind hem, how to shorten trousers, the correct stitches to use to prevent fabric fraying and how to sew a button hole. Paula also gave me numerous tips throughout the lesson. The lesson was excellent value for money and I would definitely recommend these lessons. So much easier to learn face-to-face than through a computer screen. Thank you Paula and also Hobbycraft!
