2-Day Wheel Throwing, Trimming and Painting Course

Go from a lump of clay to a finished, hand-painted masterpiece in one weekend!

2 x 2 hours Class size 1 on 1       £95 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Master the potter's wheel over an immersive two-day weekend intensive at our cosy London studio, designed entirely for complete beginners. You'll experience the entire ceramic journey – from preparing the clay through to throwing, trimming, painting, and finally firing – all guided by an experienced ceramicist who'll give you the personalized attention you need to truly learn the craft.
Day one is all about getting your hands on the wheel. You'll learn the core fundamentals: wedging and centering your clay, opening it up, and pulling the walls to create shape. Then you'll get hands-on practice making functional pieces – cylinders, small bowls, mugs – keeping your best creations to finish on day two. There's no pressure to be perfect; the focus is on understanding how the wheel works and what your hands can do.
On day two, you'll trim your leather-hard pieces, flipping them back on the wheel to refine the shape and carve a professional foot ring. Then comes the fun part: using vibrant underglazes to paint your own custom designs, patterns, and colours directly onto the clay. You're not just making something; you're making something that's entirely yours.
Once the weekend is over, we'll carefully dry your creations, dip them in a glossy clear glaze, and fire them in our studio kiln. In a few weeks, you'll collect finished pieces that are food-safe, microwave-safe, and dishwasher-safe – functional art you'll actually use and treasure. You'll walk away not just with handmade keepsakes, but with real skills you can keep using.
Please note: no experience needed – complete beginners are exactly who this intensive is for. All materials, guidance, and kiln firing are included.

What to bring

My name is Victoria, and I’m the founder of The Pottery Pop Up. I started this journey because I saw a spark in people who loved the idea of pottery painting but felt held back by the costs and complexity of setting up their own studio. I wanted to change that by bringing the creative process directly to you—whether at your office, home, or special event.
At The Pottery Pop Up, we provide everything you need, from high-quality pottery pieces to all the painting supplies and expert guidance. Our goal is to create a relaxed, inspiring atmosphere where you can unwind, explore your creativity, and leave with a handmade keepsake that tells your unique story.
I believe that art has the power to connect us, boost our wellbeing, and make every occasion a little more memorable. Join me, and let’s make something beautiful together.
