My name is Tanya Harrison and I am an artist and a qualified teacher. My passion for art started at a very young age as I come from a family of artists. I grew up going to my grandma's exhibitions, and with my dad's paintings around the house. Art was always just a way of life for me and my family as opposed to a skill that needed to be learned. As I got older, I developed my own style, and through formal education, I developed a love for portraits. At university, I studied primary school education with an art specialism. I qualified as a teacher and although I taught all subjects, I incorporated art as much as I could across all subjects. I was always praised for my relationship with my students, as even the toughest characters took a shine to me.
I was on the Next Big Thing TV show for my artwork, where I won the bursary prize in 2021. Now, I have developed a concrete style of my own, I am commissioned to sell portraits, I teach art at a hospital school, and I tutor private art lessons. In 2023, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, which has led me to want to work for myself for more flexible hours using my strongest skills, teaching and art.
