Step back into the warm glow of a classic Victorian Christmas at this hands-on gilding workshop in Northampton. Gather around the craft table, switch off from the festive rush and discover the age-old art of gold leafing as you make handmade heirloom decorations for your tree.
With a friendly teacher guiding you step by step, you'll learn traditional leafing and ageing techniques using rich pigments, delicate gold leaf and lustrous sealants. Natural botanical treasures and ornaments are transformed into radiant keepsakes that catch the festive candlelight.
Made for first-timers, this class needs no previous experience, just a love of making something magical by hand. Settle into the peaceful, fireside atmosphere and head home with a collection of one-of-a-kind, hand-gilded ornaments and skills you can keep using for years to come.
You'll make:
  • Gilded botanicals: shimmering gold-touched dried orange slices, gilded walnuts and pinecones, finished with luxurious deep-red velvet ribbons
  • Upcycled baubles and mini fruits: vintage ornaments and faux apples revived into antique gold treasures
  • Hand-cut gilded papercraft: elegant paper stars and botanical silhouettes, gilded and tied with traditional cotton twine and velvet ribbons
Everything is provided, including all the specialist gilding tools, metal leaf, natural dried fruits, vintage ornaments and velvet ribbons, plus tea, coffee and biscuits.
Please note:
  • The building is quite old, so there are no lifts.
  • We recommend children aged 10 and over, as gold leaf and glues can't be ingested. If you'd like to bring a younger child, please get in touch with the teacher directly and they'll be happy to arrange things.
