I am Hannah Wiles, a Manchester-based fine artist and furniture restorer. Having completed an arts degree and worked in the industry for a few years, I decided my mission would be to use my design skills and love of last century furniture to create stunning contemporary pieces. I saw amazingly designed materials made of beautiful materials being discarded as old fashioned and I knew in my bones we could do better and that we deserved better.
I determined only to use environmentally sound products in my making and teaching process. It is my absolute belief that our homes should mirror the beauty of the natural world, without damaging it – this is how Tread Softly was born. Creating gorgeous sustainable furniture that ‘doesn’t cost the earth’.
In line with this, I run furniture upcycling workshops and would love you to join me to create something wonderful. I am a qualified teacher and tutor and have been running workshops for several years.

Hannah was a great teacher listened well and guided us through the whole process with good detail.
All materials provided and a warm friendly atmosphere.
Would certainly do another course.

We had a fantastic time at the box making class. The venue is great, a heritage spot that's full of surprises. It really adds to the atmosphere in the studio when upcycling/crafting.
Hannah was a brilliant teacher, informative, helpful and absolutely lovely. She kept us topped up with drinks and snacks with Christmas tunes playing in the background. Our class over ran a little bit but Hannah didn't mind and she made sure we all left happy with our finished product.
My partner and I are both over the moon with how our boxes turned out and now feel equipped to be able to do it again at home if we wanted.
I've used my box to store photography bits and bobs, a hobby within a hobby!

Great teacher who was well organised. .
Our workstation were fully equipped. She ran through the techniques for repainting that then allowed you to get on an work on your furniture piece. She was a helpful advisor with hands on if needed.
Fusion paints were used and are eco and easy to use . Great paint.
A worthwhile day in every way and we completed our piece of furniture.

Came alone to the class and was made to feel welcome and comfortable immediately. Learned a lot of useful tips for upcycling over and above what we needed to know for the class. I’ve already booked on the next one!
