Join textile artist Alisha Hayes of Badger & Bumblebee for this whimsical needle felting workshop at Manchester Craft and Design Centre and create your very own charming fly agaric toadstool.
This is the perfect creative activity for a lovely day out. In this beginner-friendly session, you will learn how to transform soft wool fibres into a solid 3D shape using special barbed needles. You will be guided step by step through all the needle felting techniques you'll need to complete your project.
Pictures in this listing include the work of other people that had never held a felting needle before for you to see the sort of work you can be making with no prior experience.
All equipment is provided, including: high quality local wool, a felting mat, felting needles and finger mitts so all you need to bring is yourself for a relaxing and creative experience.
This delightful workshop will introduce you to a new creative outlet, leaving you with your own lovely toadstool artwork and the confidence to continue your felting journey at home.
There's a discount if you purchase 2 tickets but please be reassured many people do come on their own to workshops and leave having made great friends along the way. These felting workshops are all about bringing our own creativity into the sculptures, rather than the type of sessions where everyone makes the exact same artworks; participants are encouraged to express themselves and embrace the weird and wonderful properties of nature to create beauty.
The session will be lead by textile artist and illustrator Alisha Hayes, who has been working with wool for a decade. Alisha has needle felted wildlife sculptures in Manchester Craft and Design Centre and recently illustrated a childrens picture book to be released this year.

Alisha is a needle-felter and illustrator originally from Byron Bay, Australia. Alisha moved to Manchester in 2016 and upon travelling around the United Kingdom she became inspired by the diverse wildlife found here. Alisha grew up surrounded by nature and watching David Attenborough documentaries, as such she has a great interest in learning about native wildlife and sourcing local materials for her sculptures.
Textiles are inspiring due to their history and connection with storytelling and the practise of being creative in a community. Textiles are all around us and hold function in their every day use- however they are also very flexible and can become beautiful artworks. The act of felting is a special one as you can make anything using wool, a needle and a bit of patience. It’s mindful to sit in a group and tell stories while learning a skill together.
Alisha will guide you in creating a sculpture and together we will all have some great time chatting and being peaceful through creativity.
