Splatter Pattern Drinks Coaster Set Workshop Using Jesmonite

Craft your own splatter pattern drink coasters using Jesmonite Eco Resin.

2.5 hours Location Glasgow Class size 1 to 10 guests   £35

Bring a splash of colour to your dining table in this Jesmonite coaster making workshop in Glasgow, where you'll create a set of 4 drinks coasters using Jesmonite AC100 – an eco-friendly, solvent-free and water-based alternative to resin that's used to cast all kinds of homewares and decorative objects. Over 2.5 hours, you'll learn the joyful technique of splattering to give your coasters vibrant, Jackson Pollock-inspired patterns in colours you've picked yourself.
This workshop is made for first-timers, so there's no need for any previous experience with Jesmonite. Your friendly teacher will start by introducing you to the material and its many uses, then guide you through each stage at a relaxed, low-pressure pace. You'll begin with a smaller mould to make a practice piece, giving you room to experiment and find your flow before moving on to your finished set. All the materials and equipment you'll need are provided.
During the workshop, you'll learn:
  • How to mix and pigment Jesmonite AC100 in your own choice of colours
  • How to pour and cast Jesmonite AC100 using silicone moulds
  • How to make a set of 4 drinks coasters using a splatter technique
  • How to safely demould your creations
  • Tips for finishing your pieces for a more professional look
  • How to seal your pieces to protect them from general wear and tear
You'll leave with a one-of-a-kind set of coasters that's both practical and completely your own – a cheerful talking point every time you set down a cuppa, and a lovely reminder of the afternoon you spent making something by hand.
Please note: Jesmonite needs to be sealed to protect it from wear and tear, so you'll receive a take-home kit containing acrylic sealer and a cloth to apply to your pieces after the workshop.

Your teacher

Hi! I'm David and I'm the maker behind Art for Foodies - a fun-filled, food-focussed studio in Glasgow’s East End, producing affordable, handmade artworks and gifts for fellow food lovers and cooking enthusiasts.
Throughout my creative career I have dabbled in many different disciplines including mould-making, casting, painting, print-making, ceramics and woodwork which is reflected in the diverse range of artworks and products I make.
Think ceramic pasta fridge magnets made with clay the same way edible pasta is made with dough, or a series of prints produced from original oil paintings of farm-grown fruits and vegetables, or hand crafted drinks coasters and cabinet knobs for your kitchen.
On the side I run a casting and mould-making service (called Mould-Fashioned) to support other people's projects.
I have a massive passion for helping others and sharing my skills so I've decided to begin running a selection of fun and therapeutic workshops reflecting my scatter gun approach to making by covering multiple creative disciplines.
Let me introduce you to jesmonite casting with with plans to add workshops in ceramic pasta making, coaster casting, mould-making and lots more to come!
