One-to-one Sewing Workshop

Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Alison Whitehead-Shah, attended Mar 2025: Fabulous session, was money very well spent. We had recently bought a sewing machine for my daughter but she didn't know her way around it. She surprised me with her confidence during the lesson, she took onboard what she was learning really well and has now started to use her machine with much enthusiasm. Teacher was wonderful, obviously very knowledgeable and very kind and patient. My daughter learnt her way around the machine, how to set it up, sew stitches and did some practising. Venue was great and we were even offered water, which was very kind. We will not hesitate to return for another session with Sioux if my daughter feels she needs it. Super happy that our sewing - with some confidence - is underway!
  • 4/5 from Carol, attended Jan 2025: Set myself a project of doing patchwork with a sewing machine instead of by hand. Teacher was very helpful and approachable. The venue was a bit cold and there was a problem with the first machine, but the second one worked well. It had been kept in warmer surroundings! Liked the helpfulness of the teacher the most.
  • 5/5 from Anonymised ClassBento customer, attended Oct 2024: I have always wanted to learn to sew and needed someone to show me the basics before I take the plunge and buy a sewing machine. Sioux was so lovely and such a good teacher. She taught me how to wind a bobbin, thread the machine, how to use different feet, make a button hole and sew by myself. I can 100% recommend a 1-to-1 session with a Hobbycraft teacher. It was an amazing experience.

  • 5/5 from Kamal Singh, attended Aug 2024: I booked a One to One sewing class at Watford's Hobbycraft store. I wanted to know how to find my way around modern sewing machines as I have using my Mum's Singer machine which is 60 years old. My teacher was a lovely lady called Sioux who explained how to set up the bobbin, thread the needle, what the different stitches are, when to use them and especially how to make buttonholes. After showing me, I was able to have a go myself on a sample piece of material. The lesson was extremely helpful and exactly what I needed. Thank you Hobbycraft.
