One-to-one Sewing Workshop

Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Amie Peters, attended Mar 2025: I booked a 1-2-1 machine sewing class. I’m very much a beginner but wanted to learn how to insert a simple zip, for wash bags, pencil cases etc. My teacher was fantastic, very knowledgeable and patient. Explained some functions that I hadn’t realised my machine could do. By the end of the hour I had inserted a zip onto a practice piece and then made a simple but effective bag with a zip! Highly recommend if there’s something specific you’d like to master. I will definitely be booking again for a future project.

  • 5/5 from Darcey Allen, attended Jan 2023: We arrived and greeted by a lovely young lady who patiently walked my daughter (10) step by step of threading machine and different stitches. As complete novices this was exactly what we asked for. Could not recommend it enough
  • 5/5 from Cathy Stagg, attended Nov 2022: The piles of fat quarters on display have always attracted me so I booked a workshop to find out how I could use them. Charlotte had printed out two Christmas projects for me. Later, after a bit of searching, I found others on the website - all free. She also had some books for me to look at. For the 'hands on' part of the workshop we made some bunting. The Janome machine was similar to my Elna eXplore 220 so it was easy to use. Charlotte had some good tips about the difference between using ribbon or bias binding. It was lovely to chat to a fellow crafter and although we had only just met, I felt as if I'd known her forever - despite a huge discrepancy in our ages! With a Black Friday special offer, this workshop was brilliant value for money. But it did lead to me buying a lot of fabric and trimmings. I'm looking forward to days of creativity.

Sat in the shop, no problem with that, very knowledgeable teacher and patient. Great experience all round
