One-to-one Sewing Workshop

Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Mary, attended Feb 2026: Fiona was very knowledgable and put me (as a total novice) at ease. She helped me set up from the beginning of the process. Repeated steps as required and gave me opportunities to practice. An hour with Fiona has really set me on my first steps to using a sewing machine. I would highly recommend.

  • 5/5 from Fay Nutbeam, attended May 2025: I needed to know how to use my machine Fiona was great, patient and very knowledgeable Venue was fine and material supplied to show the different stitches Having someone who had the knowledge to answer my questions as a new sewer
  • 5/5 from Isabel Priscilla Whittingham, attended Feb 2025: An enjoyable lesson with Fiona who was very knowledgeable. I will be back to purchase a sewing machine.
  • 4/5 from Eileen Hollis, attended Feb 2025: I enjoyed the class very much, I thought Fiona was very good and vey patient.. She gave me the samples she had used during the lesson. I had bought a Janone Machine. I could not remember all that had been said but I think it reminds you of what can be done on the machine but I think I would need further instruction in the future. It is bout 30 years since I used a sewing machine.
  • 3/5 from Hazel, attended Feb 2025: My I start by saying that the lady who `gave the demonstration on the various sewing machines was excellent and had a very good way of explaining things. Full marks to her. However!!! she was let down by the machines she was provided with to demonstrate how they operated. Most were missing bits which made understanding the machine more difficult. For example one was missing the plug11 One of the machines was even marked as "Reject". Another machine was so faded by the sun that the instructions on the side of it were almost unreadable and there was no instruction book to refer to. I felt very sorry for her, as even she felt a bit embarrassed about the equipment she was trying to sell. There was one machine (the more expensive automatic m/c) that I may have been interested in buying but the lady giving the demonstration was less familiar with its operation as it was one they sold fewer of. In the end I left the shop feeling disappointed as I never really had an opportunity to fully operate a machine I might have bought. Just as an aside to the above comments, I would like to suggest that demonstrations are done in a more private area where there are fewer interruptions by members of the general public enquiring about items for sale.

The venue, being local, was very convenient for me. I shall carry Fiona's tips in future projects.

  • 3/5 from Sarah Palmer, attended Jul 2023: We think it was a shame that the website said not to bring your own sewing machine along. It would have been very helpful if we had brought it to learn more. The lady was helped us as much as she could but a shame as we paid for the lesson. Many thanks
