One-to-one Sewing Workshop

Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Helena Weinrebova, attended Aug 2023: My daughter and her friend (12 years old) absolutely loved. Even I have got good tips from observing. The lady was very patient and given the girls good starting point, and even tips for their first project. Thank you
  • 5/5 from Gill Holmes, attended Jul 2023: In my lesson we covered inserting interfacing which I found quite tricky as you have to negotiate manoeuvring the material through the sewing machine! Anyway with Harriet's expert guidance, as usual, it went well. I'm looking forward to my next lesson. I'm still not happy about the 33% increase in the cost of a lesson considering the 'current' rate of inflation is 7.9%
  • 5/5 from Ann Crearie, attended Jul 2023: Thank you Harriet. As a beginner you were so patient and knowledgeable. You listened and answered all my questions with confidence. You have given me inspiration and encouragement to start my very own sewing project. You are a true asset to Hobbycraft. Thank you and best wishes for the future. Ann. X
  • 4/5 from Dave Willis, attended Jul 2023: Teacher great, learnt a lot, explained a lot, gave good tips, Learning in the middle of the shop floor left a lot to be desired 20 quid for one hour debatable, Other than that ok
  • 5/5 from Gill Holmes, attended Jun 2023: My second lesson with Harriet today was excellent. I am becoming more confident reading a pattern and Harriet explains anything I don't understand. My dress is really starting to take shape and I ant wait until my next lesson.
  • 5/5 from Gill Holmes, attended Jun 2023: Had another great lesson with Harriet. She puts me at my ease and encourages me to try everything and always praises the work that I do. I used the sewing machine a lot today and am becoming more confident to use it.
  • 5/5 from Jeremy Ingram, attended Jun 2023: Hi, Judith was very informative and even though the machine was new to her. It was great watching her setting it up and our learning very much benefited. I came with some samples of the work I need to do and Judith showed me the approach and material available to use. Also she showed us another machine that was used at home and it was incredible how similar it was. We went through the maintenance of the machine, (all important)and Judith went through some examples and got me working the machine. Overall a very good experience!
  • 5/5 from Gill Holmes, attended Apr 2023: The lesson was great as usual. Harriet is professional and friendly and gives me clear instructions for the task in hand. Today I have learnt how to read a pattern and what the signs and symbols mean. I now feel more confident when pinning and cutting the material. I am disappointed that the cost of the lesson has gone up by 33% - this seems excessive in terms of a price increase.
  • 5/5 from Mavis Tuckey, attended Mar 2023: Harriet was a fantastic sewing teacher. Super friendly and reassuring, making me feel like I was a pro! She made me forget the people walking around the shop and left me feeling more confident to start creating. Thank you Harriet!
  • 5/5 from Katrina Dawson, attended Feb 2023: Absolutely amazing Harriet was just lovely! And taught me exactly how to set up the sewing machine, step by step, so patient, kind and friendly We used a few samples and made a basic flag some bunting. She’s given me so much more confidence to begin some new projects! I’ve always hand seen but really wanted a nice machine to use! So, after the workshop, Harriet kindly helped me to look at the different machines and purchase one! Very happy And I can’t wait to begin using it She’s even told me about other workshops that might be of interest to me! So, that would be brilliant Thank you so much! The whole experience was great!
  • 5/5 from Gill Holmes, attended Jan 2023: Harriet was her usual professional, friendly self putting me at ease from the start of the lesson. We were continuing with the dress I am making and she demonstrated how to sew a straight seam and how to put in the sleeves. After the demonstration I was able to try doing it myself, which was fairly successful although I've got a long way to go before I become proficient. I think I learn a lot in the sessions not only because Harriet is very competent but also because she puts me at my ease and is very encouraging.
  • 5/5 from Laura Bedson, attended Dec 2022: My teacher was lovely and very prepared. I wanted help on how to sew a cushion back onto a cushion cover I had made. I found this session very useful and am looking forward to attempting this at home. I managed to buy the cushion inserts and cushion back for my next project and the bits to complete the above project with the help of my teacher. I would highly recommend this course and the price was very good too.
  • 5/5 from Gennene Copson, attended Nov 2022: Harriet was fantastic, very patient with my daughter who has ASD and dyslexia. Although she desperately wanted to learn to sew she can very easily become overwhelmed and confused with ordering of instructions, having someone practically explain the sewing machine and it's set up, going through the steps with her and giving her feedback on how she was doing was a huge confidence boost. We didn't have a project but managed basic set up, sewing a pouch and test tried all the stitches. She came out with a huge smile on her face and great plans for what she is going to do if Santa gets her a machine! Thank you, your kindness was really appreciated.
  • 5/5 from Gillian Holmes, attended Nov 2022: Had another great lesson with Harriet. She showed me how to change the machine foot so that we could sew an invisible zip. She showed me how to position the zip, ensuring both sides were in the correct position on the material before we started sewing. She explained that it had to be sewn very close to the zip 'teeth' in order that it was 'invisible' and gave a demonstration after which I carried on trying my best to sew it in neatly. Looking forward to my next lesson.

  • 5/5 from Sikha Kar, attended Nov 2022: Teacher was excellent. She was expert handling the machine.venue could have been a bit more private. It was within the shop floor. Other people are walking round. On the whole it was good experience. I learnt a lot from the workshop.
