One-to-one Sewing Workshop

Join us in store and talk to a craft expert for tips and advice on your sewing machine or project!

1 hour Class size 1 on 1       £28

Join a Hobbycraft Colleague one-to-one and ask any questions you have about your sewing machine! Need help setting up your new machine? Want to learn about how to use certain tools and accessories? Getting stuck on a certain technique? Our craft expert will share tips and advice tailored to you.

This is suitable for beginners looking to get started in sewing, providing the opportunity to get all the answers you need. It’s a great way to get a feel for your sewing machine, troubleshoot any problems you’re having with your current project in an easy, direct way or learn about features you’re not as confident with yet.

During the booking process, you’ll have the opportunity to let your Colleague know what you would like to focus on during the session. They’ll be able to prepare for a personalised workshop that answers all of your questions.

You’re sure to walk away a sewing pro, ready to take your designs to a new level!

*Please note that your workshop host will only have access to sewing machines that are currently stocked in Hobbycraft stores.

**Children 12 years and over can book onto this workshop but please note all children under the age of 18 will need parental/guardian supervision for the duration of the workshop.

Bring a friend: You can now use the £5 add-on feature at checkout to invite a friend along with you, whether you’re working on a project together or you’d simply prefer having some company during the session. Your friend can enjoy any demonstrations given, and they are free to ask questions, but they will not receive the same practical, direct one-to-one support as is offered to the lead participant.

Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from S Cameron-Wood, attended Sep 2026: Today we made a smock using shirring elastic. My teacher went through it step by step. Very well explained.
  • 5/5 from Katy Wilkinson, attended Aug 2026: This is our 2nd 1-1 sewing workshop with the same teacher and it was great. Booked for my 9yr daughter the 1st time and her and her friend the 2nd time. They made a bag this time. The teacher was patient and informative and just lovely! Thank you so much!
  • 5/5 from Helen Haffenden, attended Jul 2026: Really good 1to1 lovely girl Louise taught me step by step with my brand new brother sewing machine I'm going to book another lesson
  • 5/5 from Terry Henson, attended Jul 2026: My 1-2-1 sewing class to understand more fully my recent purchase of a machine was excellent. The instructor was knowledgeable and patient. I highly recommend taking one of these workshops with a new purchase even if you are a confident sewer. It eases you into your new machine and endures you are aware of every aspect the machine offers.
  • 5/5 from S Cameron-Wood, attended Jun 2026: I had an excellent sewing lesson with Louise. She was very patient and explained things really well. I will definitely book another lesson.
  • 5/5 from Emma Gillings, attended May 2026: So patient with my daughter. She had a lovely time learning how to use a sewing machine and what the different stitches looked like… we’ve even been set a few easy projects to start with at home. Thank you
  • 5/5 from Sue Moorton, attended Apr 2026: Louise, the teacher, was very friendly, approachable and flexible. She helped me to master using zigzag stitch along the edge of a fabric which I had been struggling with. She also gave me lots of other very useful hints and tips. I now feel confident with using this stitch. Thank you Louise I do however feel that the description of this class is misleading. It is advertised as getting to know your sewing machine when in fact, you can't take your own machine along and use a machine that is sold by Hobbycraft. I understand why but this isn't clear until you actually come to book a date.
  • 5/5 from Valerie Woods, attended Dec 2025: I apologise on forgetting the young lady's name. I would give her a great score on how she conducted the lesson. She was very friendly which put me at my ease. She was extremely helpful. She asked me what I needed to learn and away we went. After going through all the gadgets on the machine and making sure I could use them she taught me some short-cuts like threading a needle much easier and safety aspects on the needle position at the end of the day. I would recommend the teacher and the class to anybody - grateful for the experience.
  • 5/5 from Michele Kingzett, attended Oct 2025: Louise is helpful, kind and so professional. Knowable. I wished her merry Christmas and happy new year. See you January to make a skirt. I made Christmas stockings for my grandchildren.
  • 5/5 from Gill Cole, attended Oct 2025: Very nice instructor. Covered everything I wanted to know had a few good tips to make things easier for my mobility level. Would happily recomend
  • 4/5 from Daphne Brett, attended Oct 2025: It was intended as a birthday gift for Halle, but it took from August to October to sort it out. However, at last we were met by Louise who was brilliant with 12 year old Halle who followed instructions confidently making a mini cushion cover. The basic materials used were like scraps, and it would be more professional if neatly cut squares of fabric were prepared and provided by Hobbycraft to tutors in advance of lessons, so the finished samples could have a good finish, or actually be a useful item. Halle seemed to enjoy the lesson and took great interest in what Louise taught her. It was a joy for me to watch her really absorbing the new information and applying it immediately, achieving the mini sample to take home. I hope a better, more efficient method of providing a gift workshop to a child can be put in place so others do not have the appallingly difficult experience we had trying to book the workshop once Halle had the voucher. A 2-3 month delay and endless phone calls is really UNACCEPTABLE.

Chloe was brilliant, although not familiar with the 20 year old machine, she took me through the stages of threading etc & useful hints & tips on using the various patterns, feet etc. I love the position of Hobbycraft in Eastbourne- parking is no problem. The store now has a quiet area at the back of the shop to demonstrate, without members of the public interrupting. Great value for money.

I have now been given the confidence to start my new challenge of sewing.
  • 5/5 from Eva Dimaano, attended Mar 2024: Chloe is a good teacher, easy to understand, well versed with sewing machines and she’s got a good technique for a student to learn easily. Everything needed for the workshop was provided so no need to bring anything Highly recommended.
  • 5/5 from Glenn Tonge, attended Feb 2024: I Had a one to one sewing workshop I had no experience on using sewing machines. The teacher was very helpful, going through all the features of the machine. And then helped me to take in a pair of jeans. The teacher was very pleasant and helpful. The location was on tables within the store which was useful for purchasing items to assist future planned sewing projects. The workshop was very good value as it gave me confidence to use my new sewing machine for future projects.

I will not only be recommending this to others but we will likely be back for more lessons.

Cant wait to use it starting with some christmas decotations as my granddaughter is coming from Australia and want to decorate the house as they dont decotate much over there as it is their summer. So once again Chole for your patience the hour went very quickly.
