Keeping everyone safe

At Hobbycraft, we want our workshops to be enjoyable, inclusive, and safe for everyone. Some workshops are suitable for children, and where this is the case, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for supervising their child at all times unless the workshop is clearly stated as suitable for independent attendance. Our colleagues and instructors are there to guide the activity and support a safe environment, and if any concerns about safety or wellbeing arise during a workshop, these should be raised with a member of staff straight away.

  • 5/5 from Liz Bowen, attended Jan 2026: I had bought my granddaughter a sewing machine from Hobbycraft for Christmas and we needed help with how to use it as it was different from the one she had used at school and it was different from my sewing machine. We found Becky very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. She showed my granddaughter how to thread the sewing machine then let her do it. She taught her how to use and how to clean the machine, what tension to put for the stitches, how to sew on a button and how to fit a zip. We found the lesson very helpful and enjoyable and would not hesitate to recommend Becky at the Bournemouth store.

I needed a refresher on all things sewing machine, to get my confidence back. My tutor was very helpful and friendly; we had a lovely hour together and I was able to ask all the questions I needed. It was so helpful to be part of a hands-on demo rather than reading a manual or looking at a video.

  • 5/5 from Suzanne Incerti, attended Jan 2024: Excellent informative instruction. We practiced on the same sewing machine I had bought for me in October, all I asked about and all nuisances of the machine practiced. Venue perfect, love my machine. Perfect level of instruction.
  • 5/5 from Zenia, attended Dec 2023: I'm so glad I did this class! Becky was absolutely amazing, patient and lovely! I've never used a sewing machine before but bought one recently, hoping to learn to use it. After a few weeks of me not even getting the machine out of the box due to sheer cluelessness of what to do with it, I decided to book onto this 1-2-1 sewing workshop. Thankfully for Becky, I now know how to use my sewing machine, how to set it up, and I got to practice using the exact same version of the sewing machine that I had bought. I was very nervous about using it but Becky was so supportive and went through the main safety elements of using a sewing machine. I struggle with anxiety but Becky eased any anxiety I had! She makes you feel like you're the only one in the room and gives you her undivided attention. I wasn't sure what to expect from this workshop, all I knew was that I had wanted to learn to use my machine and to get into sewing. Becky noticed that I had a scrunchie in my hair and suggested that we make one! It felt so personal and I still can't believe that I made something with a sewing machine! Such a good outcome to the session I even received 2 sewing machine driving test sheets for me to practice my sewing skills on. I am beyond grateful to Becky for teaching me how to begin my sewing machine journey! Thank you so much!
