I’m Sarah Gillings — a socially engaged street artist, educator, and founder of the UK’s first street art charity, U CAN Spray.My journey into street art began with a simple belief: creativity should be accessible to everyone, not just those who feel “naturally artistic.” I fell in love with spray paint because it’s bold, immediate, and incredibly empowering. Over the years, that passion grew into a career that blends large-scale public murals, community art projects, and hands-on creative education.I’ve worked with young people, adults, schools, charities, and community groups across the UK and internationally, helping people discover confidence through art. My teaching style is relaxed, encouraging, and practical — I believe the best way to learn is by doing, experimenting, and not being afraid to make a mess along the way.I hold a Master’s degree in Inclusive Arts Practice and have been nationally recognised for my socially engaged work, including receiving a Points of Light award from Number 10 Downing Street. My projects often focus on empowerment, identity, and giving people a voice through visual expression.What I love most about teaching is seeing someone surprise themselves — that moment when they step back and say, “I didn’t know I could do that.” Street art is especially powerful because it breaks the rules of what art is supposed to look like. It’s expressive, playful, and open to everyone.In my workshops, you can expect a supportive atmosphere, clear guidance, and plenty of creative freedom.
