Intro to Street Art Class

Get to grips with the spray can at this street art workshop in Lewes.

1.5 hours Class size 8 to 20 guests       £40 (PayPal Pay in 3 available)

Join this street art workshop and create spray-paint artwork that you'll be proud to show off. While street art is now part of the UK curriculum, it's still rare to find opportunities to work with authentic, artist-grade pressurised spray paints. In this session, you'll have access to a wide range of professional stencils and eco-friendly, health-conscious paints.
This award-winning, inclusive teaching format ensures that students of all abilities can produce high-quality pieces while enjoying full creative freedom. After covering essential health and safety, your expert teacher will guide you through foundational spray-can control techniques. You'll then progress toward advanced layering and stencil work to bring your finished pieces to life. This structure has been successfully delivered in schools, making it a reliable and fun way to find your creative spark.
As an introductory experience, this class is designed to build your confidence and help you switch off. You'll create a unique piece of art on a T-shirt, a 12-inch vinyl record, or a canvas to take home. Even if it's your first time picking up a spray can, you'll achieve striking visual results in a low-pressure, supportive environment.
You'll finish the session with a new-found artistic confidence and a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that captures your personal style.
Please note:
  • Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time for registration and housekeeping.
  • Late arrivals cannot be admitted. For health and safety reasons, the building doors are locked five minutes before the session begins. The studio is located on the second floor, and it is not possible to interrupt the class to allow late entry as important safety instruction takes place at the start of each session.
  • Please do not call if you are running late, as the tutor will be teaching. Depending on circumstances, a reschedule may be considered, but this cannot be guaranteed.
What you'll get
A vinyl Record, Tote bag, canvas or T shirt with amazing art you created on it.

I’m Sarah Gillings — a socially engaged street artist, educator, and founder of the UK’s first street art charity, U CAN Spray.
My journey into street art began with a simple belief: creativity should be accessible to everyone, not just those who feel “naturally artistic.” I fell in love with spray paint because it’s bold, immediate, and incredibly empowering. Over the years, that passion grew into a career that blends large-scale public murals, community art projects, and hands-on creative education.
I’ve worked with young people, adults, schools, charities, and community groups across the UK and internationally, helping people discover confidence through art. My teaching style is relaxed, encouraging, and practical — I believe the best way to learn is by doing, experimenting, and not being afraid to make a mess along the way.
I hold a Master’s degree in Inclusive Arts Practice and have been nationally recognised for my socially engaged work, including receiving a Points of Light award from Number 10 Downing Street. My projects often focus on empowerment, identity, and giving people a voice through visual expression.
What I love most about teaching is seeing someone surprise themselves — that moment when they step back and say, “I didn’t know I could do that.” Street art is especially powerful because it breaks the rules of what art is supposed to look like. It’s expressive, playful, and open to everyone.
In my workshops, you can expect a supportive atmosphere, clear guidance, and plenty of creative freedom. Whether you’re picking up a spray can for the first time or building on existing skills, my goal is always the same: to help you leave feeling proud, inspired, and more confident in your creativity.
Let’s make something bold together.
